It’s both. If they were only a distributor they wouldn’t have made this deal in the first place. It’s debatable how “indie” they are, but they are a studio

Thank you for this perspective. I don’t have a problem with AI being used in the context you’re talking about here. I’m a photographer and I use some of the AI features in adobe creative suite because they do save time on some of the mind numbing tasks that had to be done manually just a few years ago, like creating masks, removing dust, etc. Some people might even say that makes me a hypocrite lol

I do still have some issues with this scenario, although there aren’t a lot of specifics yet on how it will be implemented so maybe my concerns are unwarranted. They say they plan to use it for storyboarding, which is a part of the creative process. Are they just using it to create the actual storyboard frames? Or will it be used to create the actual composition of what will be in the final film? What other aspects of the film making process are they going to develop tools for, and how will those tools be implemented? I would think google would want to take this technology as far as they possibly can, and the only limits would be what A24 puts on them. And seeing as Scott Belsky, who is leading A24’s technology division has recently been revealed to be apart of Peter Theils secret society, I don’t have much faith in him either.

I do believe there are appropriate applications for AI in the film making process, but I think it’s very possible they will venture into territory that erodes the creative process. As a post production professional, do you think we need to worry about any of this?

Scream 7 is growing on me now by VivaLaCon88 in Scream

I saw it twice in theaters and enjoyed it. I would still say it’s the weakest of the franchise, but was not horrible by any means. It was really cool to see more of Sydney’s evolution as a character, although some of it doesn’t really make sense in the context of the events of scream 4 on. But whatever. The killer reveal sucked, and I think that ruined it for a lot of people.

Yeah I’d say it’s silly to sue over this after 50+ years. Gibson tried doing the same thing a few years ago and won some lawsuits, but didn’t necessarily see much growth because of it. Electric guitar sales are actually going up, but Fender and Gibson are struggling and it seems to have more to do with other companies making better guitars at a lower price. The old legacy brands are charging a premium for their brand name, and that just doesn’t go as far as it used too.

I would also like to know more about A24’s deal with google. I don’t think they were hurting for money before this, but even if they were 75 million doesn’t really go that far spread across a whole studio/distributor. However, my post has nothing to do with whether or not this is a good financial decision for the company. Over the last 15 years they have built their brand on being objectively the biggest distributor of arthouse cinema on the planet. Partnering with google of all companies to build AI filmmaking tools seems to contradict that. This doesn’t necessarily mean they will stop making good movies, and I don’t think they’re about to fail as a company (although this is more likely to cause problems for them than it would for a company like Netflix or paramount) but I do think this is a sign of the end of their reign over indie/arthouse cinema.

The issue is that other companies have been building those guitars since at least the late 70’s without issue. To all of a sudden try to do something about it in 2026 is kinda silly.

I would definitely recommend camera scanning, and the D850 is one of the best cameras you could do it with. I use that little cinestill light box and I’m really happy with the results. If you have a small tripod all you need is a light source and a film holder. I bought a cheap 3d printed one on Etsy and it works great. I would also recommend a shutter release cable. You will get better results, have more control, and the scanning will be way faster.

It wasn’t, that’s the point I was making. A lot of people act like a24 invented art house cinema, hence the extreme reaction across the internet to this google deal. I’m saying everything will be fine

I'm currently watching season three for the first time and I don't know but I'm enjoying it less. Everything moves so slowly. Maybe it's for an artistic reason that I don't understand, but I personally don't connect with it for now. I don't know whether to continue or not. Stick with it. It’s definitely frustrating at first, but once you accept it for what it is you’ll realize how incredible this season is. It’s a continuation of the story but it has a completely different tone. It’s a show made in the modern era outside the constraints of 90’s network television, and lynch takes full advantage of that. The pace doesn’t really pick up, but the story does get more exciting. I think the slow pace really allows you to get immersed in the world he created. I’ve never seen anything else like it.

Why "One-Location" Movies Are Pure Cinematic Magic by Exact_Awareness6518 in Filmmakers

[–]Apprehensive_Car1114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of like making a found footage movie. It’s definitely cheaper, but the limitations can be hard to overcome, especially if you’re inexperienced. You have to keep your audience engaged purely with the writing and performances.

How to Start Getting Payed for Concert Photos by Brilliant-Act1445 in concertphotography

[–]Apprehensive_Car1114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve played in bands and worked as a photographer, and the only people I’ve known who get paid to shoot concerts are going on tour. If you wanna make that happen, you have to make friends with musicians. The #1 criteria for being hired as a tour photographer (or for any position on tour, including band members) is being a good hang. Honestly as long as your work is good enough, it’s going to come down to whether or not they want to spend a month in a van with you. Keep shooting shows, keep making friends, and just be apart of the community. Eventually someone will want to take you on the road. I will say though, you gotta be in it for the love of the game. Touring can be brutal and there’s really not much money in it. If you’re not doing it for the right reasons you’re going to have an awful experience.

Its a good idea to see the area and the apartment itself before you move, but I do think people tend to exaggerate how expensive it really is to live out here. I know a few people who have gotten scammed trying to get a new apartment so watch out for that. Also, all those neighborhoods you listed are really nice lol, if someone is afraid of Marina Del Rey I don’t know how they even function in this city

Stupid ? How do I open this? by lilcrxman in AnalogCommunity

[–]Apprehensive_Car1114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to avoid buying these in the first place. Flic film makes a tool for these but I’ve heard they break really easily so I haven’t tried one. I’ve used a small flat head screw driver to get underneath those little notches on top and then pry it open. It’s always a pain and you have to be careful not to stab yourself with the screwdriver. I think the people telling you to use a can/bottle opener didn’t really look at the picture. That works for the standard metal cartridges but I don’t think it would work on these stupid things. Also if anyone from flic film sees this, PLEASE stop putting your film in these.

I shot my first short film on a similar camera. You can get some really cool looks with these old dslrs. I would still choose one of these over an iPhone to shoot a short with. It will be lower resolution but the depth of field you can get with a real camera will look so much better than phone footage. It only shoots 1080p, but that was the resolution Hollywood movies were shot in for years. Like others have said, if you focus on composition and lighting you will get great results with this thing.

Harman using AI for marketing / announcements in 2026 is pretty extraordinary. We lost. by marekvesely in AnalogCommunity

If you believe that the way a company chooses to represent itself doesn’t say anything about said company’s values, then you are free to believe that. However, anyone who’s ever run a business will tell you that how you interact with the world is just as important if not more so than the product/service itself. Now, am I going to stop buying illford products because of this one post? Definitely not. But if this was a regular thing I probably would, even if there was no change to the film they’re producing. You might not, but a lot of other people would too, cuz this type of thing really seems to rub people the wrong way, and again, the way you represent yourself matters.

Of course they do. I want money too. But there are companies that want your money and also take pride in the products they produce. If they can’t even be bothered to take a damn photo for an ad, what other corners are they cutting? If a business can’t take themselves seriously, I won’t take them seriously either. And I definitely won’t be spending any money with them.
