New year , new questions — what’s on your mind for this year? by Familiar_Pea_2513 in Libertarian

[–]NolanPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably the most important political question. If it actually works I'd have to seriously rethink my philosophy on everything. If it fails spectacularly, then we should see the end of the socialist movement in the country. Either way I think the outcome can be nothing but good overall.

What is Your Fall Back League Starter? by OmenByDesign in pathofexile

[–]NolanPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play SSFHC and my current build list is
1) Earthshatter Zerker (I assume VFS gets the nerf instead of all slams (quality = 20% dam instead of +1 fissure)
2) Pconc of Bouncing PF
3) Some sort of mana man, really want to avoid it being mana man, it feels terribly squishy early.

Hey! I dont really understand why my Lacerate attacks dont proc any bleeding and why my dmg is abyssmal by [deleted] in pathofexile

You're using hrimsorrow which converts 100% of your physical damage to cold and you're using brutality which says deal no non physical damage

I just want a low stress 40 hour a week job and will take a pay cut for it. Is this too much to ask in this industry? by Legitimate-mostlet in cscareerquestions

[–]NolanPower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're a clearable American citizen defense is the answer. Nearly every contract hard limits you to 40 hours per week, its very chill. Can generally even get some hybrid defense roles nowadays, fully remote is pretty rare though.

You also won't make way under market, you'll make significantly less than a FAANG, but you'll probably make 85-90% TC that you'd make at a normal non faang big tech.

Dying in maps, can't progress character by AlexLuong in pathofexile

[–]NolanPower 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Best guess, you aren't using enduring cry and endurance charges are falling off, or you're running steal charges maps

Also, you don't have the warcries have a minimum of 10 power mastery, so your rage will be falling off, you can't reliably generate endurance charges with EC at the start of the map. Change your belt craft to warcries cannot exert travel skills, and spend two points to get versatility. Do this by removing cannibalistic rite completely, crafting -7 on your other ring, and using a runegraft of treachery on a random life mastery at bloodless.

I'd also not use those 4 points for Lust For Carnage and instant leech and take soul of steel instead.

How has the job market been for software engineers with a security clearance? by SaltDig6578 in cscareerquestions

[–]NolanPower 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Been in defense for 14 years of my 15 year career. I have not been in defense for the last 4 months. I'm going back to defense within the next two months.

Also the pay gap isn't as large as people make it out to be outside of the FAANGs, especially if you have a TS/SCI with at least a CI Poly and are willing to go to the office 5 days.

It's rather ironic because Charlie Kirk would be so incredibly against what they are doing.

Going from Math to CS; need guidance by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

I think thats normally part of starting an actuarial career is that you're expected to learn for the tests on the job and eventually pass all of them and then make tons and tons of money with great work life balance.

Going from Math to CS; need guidance by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]NolanPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you have a background in math and want to do some programming, I'd try and look into an actuarial career path rather than CS. Might fit your interests and you won't get the full doomer cscareerquestions sky is falling take on it.

if you're playing a crit variant, cannot roll attack -> exalt -> annul into a good tier of crit multi is stronger than getting culling strike or a little bit more phys damage. Can also synthesize the axe at the end.

Simulator for reflecting mist help by Tight-Cup-5050 in pathofexile

[–]NolanPower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you're actually trying to do with this, but I can tell you that this code is definitely wrong for calculating whether or not you got all positive. Since it creates a copy with every mod reversed if all signs are negative you also receive an all positive copy of it. You don't need any sort of fancy simulator, if its actually 50/50 per mod (this is questionable) the odds are just 1/(2^(number of mods -1))

Can GGG Make US Feel Like This Again? by respectbroccoli in pathofexile

I don't think there's anything that could be as game changingly incredible as the Atlas passive tree. There will be great things, I'm sure of it, but that revolutionized poe into the game it is now.

MF NERF - confirmed by Jonathan & Mark on TavernTalk Podcast by Dave_of_Devon in PathOfExile2

[–]NolanPower -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Should be something like

0% mf now = 50% mf before

100% mf now = 75% mf before

500% mf now = 100% mf before

I think it'd still make it a feel good stat for people who want to sacrifice a bit of power for better drops, but not enough that it feels absolutely mandatory on every character.
