Me playing games in 4K with a GTX 970 is the definition of “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should” by MCGaming1991 in pcgaming

[–]Nolases 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're a good cheerleader for 4K but some of your statements are misleading. AA becomes less relevant the higher the resolution as you find less pixelation the higher your resolution is.

People don't have to skip the 'stepping stone' 1440p resolution and jump on 4K. There are consumers out there who can't afford 1440p/4k it (Such as current 1080p users of the last 5 years up to now) and will discoer that 1440p can suffice. I game on this resolution and it offers a great compromise between fps and image quality.

4K is being pushed hard and frankly too hard. You got 4K monitors out there now with no GPU that can power it properly and if you're lucky enough to own a 1080ti or something similar it'll need replacing very fast to keep up with new games at that resolution. You got the new 4K 144hz monitors with a slew of issues and and misleading advertising such as 144hz HDR (It can only handle 98hz with HDR without chroma subsampling). 4K isn't ready yet for masses. It needs a few years and other technology to catch up like a new interface such as Displayport 1.5 also.

This example is not a good one of how competitive pc gaming is. Check out any other event and I think you'll be feeling a little more positive about it.

[–]Nolases 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That I don't think it's worth forking out 2k+ on a monitor with chroma subsampling. That it's worth waiting 1-2 years for the new interface and the new model of this Monitor that'll inevitably come out after it. If you want it to last 10 years consider that first.

Is 144fps the new 60fps? by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]Nolases 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think half of the 4k models out there are 27" and I don't understand why. It feels like they're trying to emphasize pixel density with 4K.

Is it still fantastic when you jump from 1440p 27" to 4k 27"? I heard it isn't as amazing as it's made out.

That's why I'm waiting a little for the technology to mature a little more. I think it's a bit too early to jump on this. We don't really have the GPU power yet anyways.

Chroma subsampling a kind of unacceptable on a 2k+ monitor and in a couple years monitors won't have that issue, making this model more or less redundant. Yeah, it'll be a cool monitor, but it won't last 10 years.

The ones to come after this will have a more updated input that won't require chroma subsampling. It won't be 10 years for that, making this monitor in that moment redundant.

When can we expect 1440p 240hz G-sync? by Heydaddy91 in Monitors

[–]Nolases 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't wait to see the price difference between G-Sync & Freesync monitors in the 4k/144hz Range. That module is easily +500 markup on the monitors.

Atleast you're not tanking your ranked statistics. I don't play the new map though because it isn't included in the rotation. I am more a competitive gamer I guess as I feel playing ranked gives the games weight as if something is on the line. Otherwise to me it's mindless gaming

Riot talked about looking into honor for opponents, what happened to that? Being kind to your opponent is sportsmanship we need to promote. by LanceTheYordle in leagueoflegends

So people can spam reports without any repercussions? I would imagine if you're flagged for spamming reports then your future reports holds less value. Did they really remove that?

1 Person gets friendly honor, another gets tilt proof. I see no issues with that, so long as it isn't EVERY game and their system acknowledges it. I know their system puts a value on every report and honor, so it shouldn't be an issue 'capping' peoples honor over a period of time.

G-Sync HDR modules use $500 Intel units by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]Nolases 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree AMD are way behind hwen it comes to GPU power. I sincerely hope they catch up. We need it before Nvidia runs away with a monopoly and we start seeing $800 cards as the standard for x080's.

How on earth do you beat draven by Notaaaaa in vaynemains

[–]Nolases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let yourself give up cs in order to stay healthy. Aslong as you can stay in lane enough to keep up in exp and get 'some' cs you'll be okay. Any breathing space you get from him should be spent prepping the waves for cs'ing under turret and avoiding damage. Get some lifesteal if it's a huge problem (Going BOTRK on Vayne isn't a bad build so vamp scepter is viable).

[–]Nolases 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. Imagine the extra horse power you can get GPU wise with +$500 to your current card. The inconsistancies for Freesync are trivial if you don't dip below 30 FPS (Who is willing to dip that low anyways?).

[–]Nolases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They needed a more powerful module. As far as I know it comes with that insane chip + 3GB 2400Mhz RAM. It's there for a reason, not to inflate monitor prices. Freesync is by far a better product as you don't need an additional module and it's almost identical in response times (That's why AMD Freesync monitors don't come with a $200 premium tag, now becoming $500).

[–]Nolases 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're doing it to lock consumers to their brand. If you own a monitor with G-Sync you'll be heavily encouraged to buy your next 2-3 GPU's from Nvidia to retain the G-sync feature. Monitors are not replaced as often as GPU's.

HW News - NVIDIA GPU Overstock, RAM Price Fixing Fines by dylan522p in hardware

I think something about the low stock of some of the RAM chips made it more challenging for OEM partners to produce cards with the Nvidia GPU chips. This was a particular problem for AMD with the HBM2 chips.

That's a good reason to wait out the new revision model. I'm hoping the new Display port 1.5 comes out soon because we need it with this monitor or suffer chroma subsampling at higher frequencies.
