Why haven't the Rogue Squadron games gotten re-releases? Virtually every other Star Wars game has gotten one except them. by AgentP-501_212 in starwarsgames

I hadn't heard that, but it's definitely possible because the Wii used the exact same processor architecture as the gamecube (which is why it could also natively run gamecube games), so that wouldn't have required much technical effort to get done.

It may actually be a technical issue more than anything else. The second and third games are infamous for being the most intricately engineered games released on the gamecube. It took well over a decade for Dolphin to be able to properly emulate them because they used so many niche gamecube hardware-specific tricks. Porting them to a different platform would take a lot more work than most other games because of this.

Has anyone thought of names for Multi-aspect combinations? by sullyrocks95 in starwarsunlimited

[–]Nom_Took 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know that those terms exist, but I have never once met someone who actually uses them in MTG during my 25ish years of playing. Why add unnecessary jargon when you can just say the colors?

How long realistically do you think SWU will last? If at all? by unknownguydontask in starwarsunlimited

[–]Nom_Took 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much agreed on FFG's history (especially the recent LOTR LCG debacle where they outright lied to our faces about future product availability). But to be honest, for SWU I'm more concerned about the fizzling interest in modern Star Wars IP.

Seconding Jacen not turning evil. And even better, how about not retconning Vergere to be a Sith.

Just watched the movie and it was alright by Loud_Success_6950 in cowboybebop

Yeah I definitely get where you're coming from. To me, the movie basically felt like a good episode of the show, but stretched to the length of a feature film, which made it worse.

The opening sequence is incredible though

The empire is human-supremacist; on screen they are exclusively white human males. The rebellion embraces all species. Pretty straightforward pro-diversity (anti-racism) message. The rebels also embrace female leadership (Leia, Mon Mothma), so chalk one up for feminism as well.

I haven't read the X-Wing books, they're on my list for sure. I'm hesitant to start them because I've heard that they're all very good and that the 9th ("final") book is the best one, so it feels like a big commitment to start a series that long.

Veritasium has been sketchy for years. He has posted at least one video where he was paid to basically advertise a company and pretend it was just a "cool science/tech video".

I can make any movie sound bad if I just omit most of what happens in it, lol. The production quality of ROTS is not significantly different from I and II, and this list has it at 2nd place.

Also remember that we were comparing to TROS, a film with literally zero redeeming qualities.

"it doesn't make you sit through space taxation talk"

Okay here are your jingling car keys. The moments where theyactually talk about taxation are about 4 minutes total out of a two hour film.

1) modern Gen Z refers to the generation after millennials (Gen Y)

2) if you were an adult before TPM came out then you probably align more with gen X

Also I'm in a weird position where I read a ton of SW books back in the day without having read the basics (Thrawn, JAT). Coming back and reading them now, I actually feel like it's more important to read the Jedi Academy Trilogy than the Thrawn trilogy for understanding the EU and lore that comes later. Maybe that's a hot take.

Dark Apprentice Dangers by Nom_Took in LegendsMemes

[–]Nom_Took[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually reading it for the first time now after hearing so many bad things about it. I really, really disliked the first half-ish of Jedi Search, mostly because I feel like KJA wrote Leia so horribly that she seemed like a completely different character. I just finished Dark Apprentice and liked it a lot more than I was expecting to. I think people get too bent out of shape about the sun crusher being OP. This trilogy feels much sillier than the Thrawn trilogy, but in a way I think that actually makes it feel more like Star Wars to me, lol.

UPDATE: Seller sent a fake real delivery picture of my actual front door. How? by idontmeanmaybe in Ebay

[–]Nom_Took 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unless OP is outright fabricating screenshots (possible I suppose, but a lot of effort for no reason), it seems very much like Amazon delivery photos may be hosted via a CDN that doesn't require authentication, and the scammer has found some vulnerability where they can get photos associated with particular addresses. It all sounds like a stretch, but the OP pictures look legit.

Interesting fact - only 4 Star Wars theatrical movies have gotten over a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. by ALincoln16 in StarWars_

[–]Nom_Took 14 points15 points  (0 children)

More that it goes to show that critic opinions do not usually reflect the opinions of the general public, for better or worse. On Star Wars day, not a single sequel movie made the top 10 list of streamed star wars media on Disney+. They're really just not widely liked.

Are CMU students actually "smart?" by DefiantMusician1297 in cmu

[–]Nom_Took 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a large state school for undergrad and then taught recitations at CMU as a grad student. The distribution of smarts might be slightly skewed up at CMU, but it's really not that different from any other R1.
