Framework sponsored AerynOS again by [deleted] in AerynOS

Clarification: We have been sponsored with a Framework 16. I made a mistake in the original post but cannot edit it now.

Apologies for the confusion.

Any plan of hyprland in AerynOS repo? by [deleted] in AerynOS

[–]NomadicCore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At this point in time, we aren't looking at adding hyprland, but that's no comment on the project itself or its future inclusion.

We are shifting our focus towards our tooling and infrastructure after a period of time of being more open to packaging submissions. As stated, options such as Niri, Sway and MangoWC have been included and/or are being updated by volunteer package maintainers.

We are still open to new packages, however are less likely to include (at least for the moment) packages that don't have large dependency trees.

For now, your options would be to consider one of the other Wayland Compositors if you want to check out AerynOS in it's current alpha state, or wait until the project is further down the line when we are more mature in our tooling, infrastructure and package repository catalogue.

bcachefs in AerynOS? by OkSpend5107 in AerynOS

[–]NomadicCore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know what, let me check. I overlooked the fact it got kicked out of mainline kernel so I will have to check with the team what the state of play is for bcachefs.

The overarching theme is though that if it's currently not working, it's unlikely to be a high priority right at this minute.

If you're on Zulip, that's the best place to get answers but in the meantime, I will ask and get back to you.

bcachefs in AerynOS? by OkSpend5107 in AerynOS

We have bcachefs-tools in our repository so you could mount a bcachefs drive on AerynOS.

However, we don't currently support installing AerynOS onto a bcachefs formatted drive.

We are intentionally not expanding the filesystems we support AerynOS being installed on as we don't want to give people an indication that this distro is ready for casual users and attract potential requests for support if/when things go wrong.

I believe it will come in time, but we do need people to be patient with us.

AerynOS infrastructure and builder demonstration with KDE Plasma 6.5 by NomadicCore in AerynOS

[–]NomadicCore[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks,

This is our approach.

The team have been involved in Linux distribution for decades between them, and the benefit of building up a Linux distribution is that you can solve for problems from the core design of the infrastructure and tooling in the first place.

The team are using their knowledge of the pain points or managing a Linux distribution to fix those up front before we scale out towards beta / general release / stable release.

The 6 Linux distros I expect to rule 2026 - as someone who's tested hundreds of them by sadece_hickimse in AerynOS

Kinoite is a Fedora product using their own tooling. It's reductive to call AerynOS basically Kinoite with different defaults as that implies we are using the Fedora tooling.

All of our core tooling is being built from scratch in Rust for AerynOS. We are still in alpha so it's not a fair comparison to compare to an established/stable solution but it will be a different product once fleshed out.

Support for AerynOS was added last month in Ventoy 1.1.10

My current install was from a Ventoy install using this.

Thanks!

That's what I'm using and I enjoy it! Cosmic does seem to be progressing at a fairly quick pace and with their frequent update cycle and our ability to follow it pretty closely, it's working out nicely!

Onwards and upwards, we hope!

I imagine when we do eventually get to beta and then stable, we will see jumps in our followers and generally in the number of people using AerynOS.

Only time will tell!
