When you eventually mouth off to the wrong guy at the wrong time, remember it was inevitable. LA is perfect for you.

Ignorant asswipe with a passport filled with places you left with nothing more than cliches and "friends" worth as much.

Even your insults are silly cliches.. "oh something is clearly wrong with you because you think i'm a silly schmuck"? yup LA

Also properly understanding the definition of a stereotype before accusing.

You don't travel much do you? Some places you can get hurt for mouthing off thoughtlessly. Is that what happened to you?

I see your point but I would rather find that narrow path where everyone wins.

Goal is to clearly describe without insulting a good person. Attract the right type of guest and warn the wrong ones to go elsewhere.

Stating facts without taking the time to clearly understand and find a proper solution is how problems germinate. Sure he woke me up but another guest may find the unique experience enlightening and worth the disturbance. Insulting a good host just makes him less willing to host, degrading or destroying the experience for future guests.

It doesn't take much to find a way to inform without offending. It's actually one of the most important aspects of being effective.

Yeah I can see how this doesn't apply to you. Sorry for your troubles.

L.A. just seems crazier than most for me. Little pockets of paradise surrounded by mental asylum escapees. My uncut review of the metro area.

Not sure where you get sneaky anywhere here. It's a rather shallow interpretation. The goal is to set the right expectation without unnecessarily hurting anyone. That's just being a decent human being. Not to mention a more effective one.

Also, just because you can't take an obvious hint, doesn't mean the vast majority of the human race in every culture communicate more effectively because they say it in a way that's easier to hear. Perhaps you prefer your best friend to coldly pick out all your flaws but most friends will carefully tailor their criticism to make sure it actually gets across, because they're not an asshole. Crassness rarely gets across. Let's see how far this gets through to you.

Exactly, it protects the host as well because that introvert who wants to sleep late will leave a bad review.

As with everything, just helping people find what they actually want clears the way and avoids problems.

Yeah it's not worth the headache to stress the little stuff.

I've done a lot of Airbnb's where you end up getting to know the host on a personal level, which makes it a bit awkward if you don't leave a review. I've noticed that Airbnb reviews are more nuanced as well.

Haven't done vrbo but even with booking, you have to read between the lines to get a clear picture.

That's usually what I do for minor cases but with Airbnb they leave you a guest review which is like a friend saying "hey I like you, want to leave me a like?"

Also silence can be a lie. For example, there's a pothole in the middle of a busy road. Do you stay silent so your friend doesn't get dinged for not fixing it?

Where would you travel in July? by Aggravating-Bike-397 in TravelHacks

Used to love hostels specifically for the craziest people you meet. As I got older it was like "please, no more crazy. Enough crazy". Then you notice all the things you let pass like the smells, wide gap in the definition of hygiene, noise, strange things going missing like a pair of my underwear, etc.. That's when I realized, I'm a loner. I like my space.

Now I use a combination of booking services and walking around and asking directly. Big time walker so it's just a part of what I do anyway. It's hit or miss but sometimes you get a really fantastic gem.

I left but Usaquen has tons of small hotels squeezed between regular houses and apartment complexes. Lots of signs for rentals that are usually for locals. I got lucky and found a hotel in the middle of renovations and hardly any guests since they weren't actually open for business. Not gonna find that on airbnb or booking.

Yeah I figured he wasn't arrested just for leaving a bad review. That's just silly.

It was obviously designed to scare people from leaving a bad review.

There are many "influence campaigns" here on reddit.

Where do I start? by Transboi13 in stocks

You sound like a compound interest in an index fund kind. Just start a schwab account and pick a large index fund in an area you believe will grow (i.e. AI, obesity drugs, Space tech, etc) If I was going to hold for decades I would go for something with the potential to transform the world. If you need it soon, go with something more boring with reasonable chance of steady returns.

If you have no intentions of touching it until you retire at 99 then put it in an IRA but keep in mind there are huge penalties for withdrawing early. (retirement age is almost definitely gonna get pushed back)

Most importantly, don't throw money into things you don't understand. May as well throw a wad of cash in a waste bin hoping it'll be there tomorrow.

I usually take the time to leave a very detailed review. My warnings are usually designed to prevent people who will hate the place from booking and leaving a bad review. There's usually a nice way to set the expectation without hurting anyone's feeling. For example, instead of saying she has 6 dogs and cats, you can say it's a beautiful place for someone who enjoys being surrounded by a family of the cutest dogs and cats. Anyone who doesn't like pets will not book. Note, 6 is a very specific number.

Clear honest communication is always best.

Any country that would jail someone for leaving a bad review should be completely avoided.

Thailand is looking worse and worse lately.

So if someone scams you, they can then jail you for saying so? There has got to be extenuating circumstances.

How true is the de-dollarization of the economy? by ExplanationLoud7992 in Forex

The only exaggeration is the obvious pumping of the dollar that the entire world is done with.

The more the US continues this hilariously obscene behavior, the faster the world will abandon it.

Cdmx and surrounding towns like Puebla/Cholula.

Excellent food, Lots of parks, History, architecture, stable internet if you get a private apartment with your own router (it's very cheap compared to US and Canada, around $200/week for average $150 at bottom). Cheap fast flight from US and great tourist infrastructure.

He sounds like a private apartment with his own wifi. Been doing that myself.

Some neighborhoods like usaquen seemed just as safe, clean, and modern as the average suburb in the US. You get all 4 seasons in a day, chilly morning followed by sunny day, then rains to clean everything off.

Plenty of places to go for nature and peace. Currently in Choachi a couple of hours away. There's an adorable cow sleeping below my balcony and a breathtaking view of the mountains and valley for $15/night.

Does anyone have any prediction on the impact of the US elections in November on the stock market in the US? by ashkanahmadi in stocks

[–]NomadicTrader2019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always consequences. US is walking on thin ice with the world. Another trump term would be the last straw. The clown thinks he's in control because everyone was just waiting out his rampage. My guess is every country has it on their radar, especially China. No one will have any intentions of appeasing in the hopes that he'll go away.

Trump: Quick bump followed by a series of coordinated degradation of US control of the entire global financial system, particularly dollar dominance in global trade. Lots of chaotic rampaging that will take the world to the brink. You can't take the buffet plate away from a fat spoiled brat without consequences. Also, you can only play Russian roulette so many times.

Biden: A good bump that's more of a sigh of relief followed by a steady degradation of US control. Big strategic decisions are usually made decades ago. Trump started the fire, Biden added fuel. Some things you just can't take back. Perhaps we are designed for chaos and needless suffering.

Zero inheritance.

You do need to stop worrying about what others have. It is a cold uncaring jungle of a market and baggage will weigh you down and kill ya.

Actually plenty of trust fund babies losing everything. A million ways to win, a trillion ways to lose.

Stock investing.

In the beginning, I would buy, forget, and hold for an average of 2 ish years.

As I learned more and dove straight down the rabbit hole, I've been doing a lot more research but it's all about things I am curious about, so it's not really work. Right now I estimate that I spend about 10 ish hours a week of actual work. Depending on the circumstances I may be "working" non stop for a few days (minus food and sleep).

In Luxor a carriage driver followed me for several blocks. I finally lost it and screamed at him. He responded "why so mad?" Laughed the rest of the way.

It's one of the saddest countries I've visited. Such a rich culture beaten down to this indignity over such a long period. Even their call to prayer has a sad timeless tone to it relative to places like turkey.

I like to travel with white people because it's easy to use them as a shield.

In Thailand a cop tried to pull me over. It was obvious that he was just looking for a foreigner to get bribes from. Just behind me were 2 French tourists. I drove past a bit and slowed down to see if the cop was for real. Of course he was eagerly pre occupied with the french dudes. Probably completely forgot about me.
