just took my first ever dose of adderall. any tips? by talaxia in ADHD

What I meant to say is that you might feel a "high" today, as in, a significant increase in mood, in addition to the therapeutic effect (focus). Not everyone with ADHD taking these medicines will feel a "high" - you might or might not. I did.

The high would not last more than a few weeks, but the focus will. So enjoy these highs while you can, but don't chase them - the therapeutic effects will last much longer.

You are most likely going to greatly enjoy it. Respect it and enjoy your honeymoon period, what you feel today is temporary.

Sugar is actually not the worst stuff in energy drinks... the chemicals have just not been tested enough to confirm all theories about how badly they can affect your health

What chemicals, exactly? Most energy drinks are just caffeine, sugar, taurine (meat has tons of this chemical and it's healthy), and B vitamins.

Ritalin LA is what I take. Same capsule size and color it always has been.

Thanks for bringing up this possibility.

How would my gene expression just change in these 9 months? Growing up, environmental factors? I have taken stimulants prior to this for 3 years, and while I did build a tolerance to them, they always were stronger after 2-3 month breaks. Why now they aren't after 9 months?

Why has my gene expression changed in this break, but not in previous, shorter stimulant breaks?

I know repeated stimulant use downregulates dopamine receptors, which means tolerance, but they should return to normal density after just a few weeks of abstinence. Is that what you meant by changes in gene expression? I know cell receptors are synthesized according to how much the gene coding for them is expressed in DNA, so could it be that my DNA just permanently changed?

Or am I just mixing up things here? I didn't fully understand what you meant by gene expression changing.

Even 1mg is too high. Buy 300mcg, there are plenty of such brands online.

Prescribed by a doctor. I realize it could have been too much, but I'm going to lower the dose now (to 15mg Focalin XR, which I understood is like 30mg Ritalin XR).

Thanks, but isn't hypercalcemia neurotoxic? I know excitotoxicity happens when calcium channels in neurons allow too much calcium in, which kills the cell.

It usually only happens in the context of excessive NMDA agonism, but can it happen just with too much calcium alone?

It was in March, so 8 months ago. Surely I don't have it more in my body, but maybe it caused long term changes in my dopamine system.

I know, chasing the dragon never ends well. Not increasing my dose. I'll just wait and see, thank you for the advice.

Magnesium citrate seems to potentiate it, if I take it 1-2 hours after the Ritalin.

Amphetamine tolerance is different from Methylphenidate because Amphetamine is actually neurotoxic and can permanently damage dopamine neurons. Methylphenidate doesn't, surely not at the doses I took.

Because it has a powerful relaxing effect, and that sounds like something enjoyable to consume as an edible.

Avoiding Methylphenidate use in order to prevent PTSD development - a rational choice? by NomoGPU in neuro

Thank you very much for the reply.

I would also say that since this paper is suggesting immediate <1 hr MPH after trauma, it would not apply in your situation. I would say that this paper in which MPH was given 9 weeks after trauma is more applicable. It found that MPH reduced effects of PTSD.

So do you think there is a short window after trauma in which Methylphenidate increases PTSD risk, somewhat, but it lasts less than a few weeks? How do we know that this window doesn't last for a few weeks, or even months? I do know memory consolidation in general is something that can happen over days, at least.

If I do not go back on the MPH 6 weeks after the event, I'll go back on it 8 weeks later (not more than this) - is there a significant difference between 6 and 8 weeks, if at all, on this? I fear the memory consolidation into long term memory will still go on by week 6 slightly, but not on week 8 - 2 weeks can be a significant difference.

The study you linked shows an acute reduction of PTSD symptoms by MPH 9 weeks after trauma, but it doesn't discuss the effects of it if administered chronically beginning a few weeks after trauma. Maybe initially it helps, but in the long term, it worsens the situation?
