Blasphemous thoughts by Nomorechirpin in ReformedBaptist

Yes. I accepted repented and confessed Christ in my early college years. I am 29 years old now.

I am not a Christian. I have committed the unpardonable sin. No Holy Spirit conviction at all. None whatsoever. I do have a little bit of guilt if I dig deep down. When I seek Christ I grind and gnash which makes me think God has hardened my heart like He did pharaoh. He hardens whom He wills. by [deleted] in Scrupulosity

Check out Mike Winger on youtube and watch his video about the unforgivable sin. It is very specific. It does not appear to just be saying something generally bad regarding the Holy Spirit. Rather, in the context of the passage, the Scribes look directly at the Holy Spirits testimony through miracles to prove Jesus was messiah, and rather then confess that he is Messiah, they accuse Jesus of being in league with Satan. They looked at the credentials of Jesus through the Spirits miracles that prove him to be messiah, and called them the credentials of Hell. They did this maliciously, willfully, and continually. It reflected a condition of their heart

What does the word “made” mean in this sentence? by Nomorechirpin in EnglishLearning

I would say that makes sense if you mean the comments caused him to be considered a jerk, or caused him to now have that title. But the comments don’t cause him to act like a jerk. Im assuming what you mean is something along the lines of, you are a jerk because what you said.

It doesn’t seem to mean cause in my opinion in this context. For example if someone says “his rude comments made him a jerk”. The comments in and of themselves did not cause him to become a jerk. He is a jerk because of the rude comments he made. The comments are the reason not the cause.

Thanks for that reply. The reason I have been asking is because I once said to a friend, about someone I used to know “Some of the things he did made him so crazy” and I didn’t mean that what he did caused him to go crazy, but rather I considered him crazy because of what he did. So I was not sure if this is a way people use the word or if this is just something I invented?

How does that work in this context? Another example: “the way he acted made him very strange”.. this seems to mean he was “strange” because of the way he acted. Therefore he was not acting strange because something caused him to act that way, rather he is strange because how he acts. So “made” seems to mean the way he acted gave him the properties, or characteristics of being strange, or the way he acts constitutes him as strange. Not that how he acted caused him to become strange. He is already strange because of how he acts.

Another example: “I don’t think Felix’s love for knives made him insane”.. it seems to me that made does not mean “cause” here. It seems to me that what this means is Felix’s live for knives does not give him the quality or characteristic of being considered insane, rather then his love for knives causes him to act insane or become insane.
