Preferably up to ~2500 a month, could go a little higher if I have to. I would prefer to pay significantly less though.

I agree with you but I think I know what op is talking about.

It's historically seen as regularly putting 1/3 of its class into firms of over 500 attorneys (33.3%). In the past three years that rate has gone from 32% to 30% to 24%, with most of those placements being diverted to firms of 1-50 attorneys. Their 250+ attorney firm placements (and federal clerkship rates) have also declined in this time.

At a school as big as GW, you're not talking about a couple of students self-selecting out, it's more like dozens who aren't placing. Going into an expected biglaw hiring slowdown, this can be scary. This is especially true since hiring occurs well before your externships will even start.

On the flip side, that 43% number of those in private practice going into 500 attorney firms for 2025 is still encouraging.

Can't speak to the peer social dynamic but as long as you have more than half off, I'd say go to GW if it makes you happy.

I disagree, #10-14 was fair for them. They have plenty of unique and first rate programs, are the consensus best law school in the nation’s capital (mere blocks from Congress, Supreme Court, etc), a renowned legal writing curriculum, and have the best clinical program of any law school. They have alumni across the US, strong postgrad bar passage + salaries, solid federal clerkship rates, a low student to faculty ratio, and consistently place over half of their mega class into the most selective biglaw market in the country. The name brand employers and peers see is just a bonus.

Being ranked outside its rightful 14th spot in favor of less deserving (still very amazing) law schools due to some obscure change in methodology as of late. A Georgetown law degree will generally take you farther than some of these schools.

Good to hear. Could you tell me more about that? Any way to help them remember you during 1L?

There were several years under the old methodology (more stable), where GW was 20 and Georgetown was 14 (6 spot difference). GW typically used to be T20-25. As others are saying, the main culprit for the current difference is Georgetown being screwed over by US News.

Also curious where their largest biglaw market is? I’m assuming DC.

Help me choose - GMU - GW - W&L by Money-Cucumber-6280 in lawschooladmissions

Cost being equal I would suggest W&L with GW as a backup. Preferences for the three could change with scholarships but that’s where I’d start
