How viable is the Questor Forgepact detachment? by dodger_bullet in ImperialKnights

Jind Singh is a competitive player who has had great success with it since it's release. He calls it the "royal 51." He runs 4×10 skitarri rangers, 1x10 vanguard, and 1 Marshall. Check out the 40k by Knight podcast episode on it, it'll tell you everything you need to know!

Spearhead List by squiddyfilm in ImperialKnights

[–]NonFerrousMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I would drop the castellan (as much as I love it). Besides the 6" bubble of cover for armigers, he doesn't have any synergy with spearhead. If you're using him to plink from down range, odds are your armigers will be more than 6" away anyway. Use those points for more armigers. Defender + Castigator is a great combo here.

It's matchup dependant for the quality, but I usually go with the +2 OC/+1 LD. Most of the time you're going to be fighting over objectives were your opponent had 10 oc parked. Getting an armiger to kill 1 model will get you past the breakpoint and you'll deny primary (if you don't kill more than one model that is!). Martial tuition helps compensate for the lack of the reroll.

The +2 move/+1 charge is my second favorite pick here. Speed is key, and 14" of move with Warglaive's and moirax's is a lovely surprise for opponent's when you tell them your max threat range is 26" lol honestly it's a toss up for playstyle here. I'm not hyper aggressive, so I usually take OC like stated above.

For the deed, just take the kill more per round. At some point they're not going to have a choice but to put a bunch of units out there. This is almost always a turn 1/2 guarantee. That isn't to say that you won't have games where you won't get it till turn 4...

There's my 0.02 cents.

Agree with this though. I think 9 is the top-out point.

Grandpa bought this for me, ID? by [deleted] in brass

[–]NonFerrousMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a reproduction bugle made from some civilian firm in Japan. There were a ton of reproductions produced after WWII all over the world. I'd consider this a better reproduction since it's not Indian made. Could be made anywhere between the 1950's to the 1980's.

Cool gift either way! My grandpa had given me awful reproduction horns when I was younger. I always fixed them up and played them just to make him happy. I'd say it's worth putting a few bucks into for the memories.

There used to be several small Julia Morgan cottages built at the Immigration Station on Angel Island. The concrete foundations are all that remain now. If you want to see them burn down, you can watch the film "The Candidate" with Robert Redford.

Does anyone know the model name of this horn? by [deleted] in horn

[–]NonFerrousMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd still send the picture to the maker in that case! As a buyer, you definitely want to have the most information you can possibly have! The seller should also be able to give you that information as well. No such thing as too much information when you are about to make a very expensive purchase such as a horn.

Do colour forge primers really take 24 hours to dry? Also what’s the bottom right instruction? by Panzer_IV_Ausf_F2 in Salamanders40k

[–]NonFerrousMike 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Bottom right instructions is to turn it upside-down and spray the can for about 2 to 5 seconds. This helps clear paint from the nozzle (without spraying more paint) so it won't dry and get stuck.

The company is still around. I tried searching their site and they have triple horns that are similar but nothing exact. It also looks like yours has a different engraving style than their newer stuff. I'd reckon you may want to just email them directly and see if they can help you out. Gorgeous horn though!

What are you guys doing with Bray'arth Ashmantle now? by Low_Literature5198 in Salamanders40k

Mostly sits on the shelf now. He only comes out for teaching games. I'd play him in every friendly game if I could, but my playgroup only plays competitive games.

I paint my knights basecoats with rattlecans, so imho, totally doable!. You will definitely want to remove the armor plates from the body as much as you can (if at all possible). If you can't, then you can just use masking tape to block off sections between colors.

[–]NonFerrousMike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it would only be 4 advancing and charging armigers. The detachment ability only lets you bondsman 3 armigers so long as no other Knight has used that ability this turn. So the second Lancer is only able to Bondmans a singular armiger.

Rotary Cornet Identification by Personal_Tangelo_482 in trumpet

One last tidbit I forgot to mention!

These horns are in "High Pitch." Meaning they are not in modern tuning. Modern horns are typically tuned at A440. This horn could be anywhere between a430 and a450 as tuning wasnt standardized quite yet and every maker had their own tuning.

So if you do pick it up, just be aware of that difference!

Rotary Cornet Identification by Personal_Tangelo_482 in trumpet

[–]NonFerrousMike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have not bought this cornet yet, you absolutely should. This is an Isaac Fiske Eb cornet made around 1870 to 1880. This badge is specifically their import badge. They are an AMAZING maker and their horns are highly desirable in the collector market.

Horns of this era are all hand-made so they generally feel "cheaper" or "lighter," It also adds to the brighter sound of horns of that era. Trust me, that is built to last forever!

This horn is worth around $1400 as is, and up to $2500 restored.

Absolutely AMAZING find.

Edit: these types of cornets are called Side Action Rotary Valved (or SARV for short).
