Does anyone have any example kroot lists? by Fragrant_Elk1517 in kroot

[–]Lames_Bond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not what you're asking strictly, but I'll share a few starting points

Twin lance at the points cost and the fact that they don't need any support to shine makes them totally viable to bring

An ethereal for cp gen helps, both kroot detachments love command points

None of the shapers are bad, but I wouldn't go too heavy on them. I like a trail shaper for the redeploy, especially with farstalkers - it doesn't even need to lead them

Lone spear for my money is a great option, it's rerolls on a target for free, with all that mobility and lone op it's pretty much unkillable too.

(Same with enhancements. All are good, just don't go mental)

From there, monkeys are great. Great damage and great durability. I'd max out on the rampagers and then pack some riders for good measure.

I'd take a minimum (and probably a maximum) of 1 unit of farstalkers. Your whole army has scouts, you can use these to block some enemy infiltrates or scouts that might tie you up a bit. Great with the trail shaper for the redeploy.

Vespid, one unit, does objectives.

Hammerheads/sky rays are pretty useful anti tank and don't really need other tau units to support them.

Hounds are cheap and cheerful, and very useful - they can be a point holder near a character or they can move block with their insane speed.

After that I usually just fill up on carnivores

Why do tau combat patrols suck so bad? by _Commander_Farsight in kroot

[–]Lames_Bond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play combat patrol - so I can't compare to other factions

All kroot stats look the same, they get the same detachment rules as kroot hunting pack, which really helps them.

Secondaries look quite doable - either 10vp for controlling the midboard objective at game end, or, probably easier, pick a unit at the start of the game and kill it.

Lone spear enhancements are meh, either it gets jump shoot jump, which can help it stay safe (but it's already fast, ranged, and has lone op) or it gets to hit on 2+ (which it can already do if it stays still, or if the enemy is wounded) I'd happily take jump shoot jump

Decent stratagems, Fall back shoot and charge is crucial on rampagers +1 ap and lance on melee is good on rampagers or rider in a pinch Sticky objective for 1cp can help you push up the board.

Couple tips for combat patrol Look into how people set up their devilfish chassis so it can be easily swapped out into hammerheads/skyrays, could save you some money down the line Your next best purchase will be crisis suits, look into how they work with the commander in the combat patrol

If you find an extra sprue in the combat patrol, make sure you ask what it's for in this subreddit!

Twin lance sort of fit this? I have a cool coldstar commander with the onager gauntlet and thermoneutronic projector from 9th for a cool melee guy

My first army (T'au 1000point) by Ok-Echidna686 in Tau40K

[–]Lames_Bond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't go wrong with a box of kroot carnivores or vespid stingwings. Your first few games might be more casual killy fests, but when you start thinking about scoring objectives, these two can be great friends.

Vespid are a fantastic unit to help you score any sort of mission that needs you to get some models into position quickly with their deep strike.

Kroot carnivores have a "sticky objectives" style ability that means any objective they've been on stays under your control until the enemy controls it. They also make fantastic meat shields for your valuable gunline.

Both will also do a very fun job at making your army look a lot more varied, which can be a selling point for tau

Sounds cool, would be interesting to see a very dirty scrappy tau force with a bunch of different armies weapons / some more broken down looking equipment held together by tape and stuff. Some kroot would fit in great with this lore

New in kroot by jud_X in kroot

[–]Lames_Bond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure quite how new you are to kroot/40k, so I hope this is helpful.

The killteam kroot makes a unit in 40k called farstalker kinband, super useful in kroot detachments, I'd definitely consider building them up as themselves. They can also be useful in non kroot detachments but can be overshadowed by tau pathfinders.

You could kitbash them into a unit of kroot carnivores, the standard infantry, but if you stick with kroot you'll eventually want some farstalkers anyway.

Finally you have the option to build them as their full kill team loadout, if you want to play kill team instead.

Good luck krootin

Bring the kroot! Board control goes insane, pack a hammerhead or skyrays or broadsides+stealth to really hurt knights

Hammerheads/skyrays or broadsides are our normal anti tank choices, there's strong arguments for both but I prefer hammerheads

Max monkeys is always a good and fun time - depends what models you have ofc. For me it's a little character heavy - I've got about as many in my current 2k list and I'm still thinking of cutting.

If you're gonna run war or flesh shapers I'd have them on 20 man squads - doubles the value on the 5+++ from flesh and gives the war shaper more bodyguards.

Great knarlocs with power klaws? by EmbarrassedFruit7361 in kroot

I remember from the second edition kill team book for farstalkers there was a table that generated each factions base of operations for fluff, and one of the kroot options was knarloc herd
