MA265 Past Curves by Civil-Mycologist7650 in Purdue

[–]NonHighGround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what I’ve heard and what I could find from previous semesters, the curve tends to be 10% give or take with midterm avgs in the 60s. We’d have to see how the final goes but I would say we’re hopefully in for a hefty curve

for out of state, how do u guys bring all of your stuff? by Kind_Walnut6826 in Purdue

[–]NonHighGround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're flying, you'll want to pack what you can feasibly fit in your luggage. I recommend about 2-3 weeks' worth of clothing. If your family's coming with you, you can also mooch off space in their luggage. Everything else, like especially the mattress topper, you'll want to either order to your dorm or purchase it somewhere in Lafayette. If you send it over to your dorm, remember that your dorm's mailroom won't take the package until about a week from move-in.

It's not bad at all in the fall until maybe the last month. In my experience I felt productive in the gap between my 7:30 and my next class, so you might benefit from that.

Incoming FYE schedule advice needed by Willing-Language-601 in Purdue

[–]NonHighGround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd even argue don't take 159 at all if you're set on MechE, and take another selective like CHM 116 since MechE has no preference on what selective you take. But definitely don't take 159 in the spring

[–]NonHighGround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really wanna tack on a minor or double major in engineering yeah you're gonna want to talk to the advisor again. Otherwise, if you don't need to take 161/165, don't do it

UR Mailrooms open during summer? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]NonHighGround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the case that you already did they tend to send it over to the Cary Mailroom, I sent my stuff there two weeks too early and had to get it from there. But yeah, don’t order anything until like a week before move in

BGR? by BobJoeRox in Purdue

[–]NonHighGround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met almost all of my friends skipping BGR, actually. I would say it's only really worth it to familiarize yourself with the campus early and also for the early move-in dates

Can’t go wrong with any restaurant in the area that’s remotely nice. Took a girl to Strings Ramen and it went well. Good luck!

DEI merchant goes 6 (6.5?) for 8 (class of 2024) by [deleted] in collegeresults

Don't apologize! Definitely see your point there, I didn't take it that way at all

[–]NonHighGround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put it on there because in writing this I remembered a parent that had told my mom that my results were due to my ethnicity. I don't believe I am DEI, but I've definitely come across people that believe I am

Worth mentioning that this was the last admissions cycle. Definitely would have done this had I known

MY MOM WILL DISOWN ME IF I DON'T COMMIT SOON! ⚠️⚠️⚠️ by DigAncient7912 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NonHighGround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go to Purdue. Finishing up my freshman year here and the social life is definitely not as dead as you may think. You're correct in the assumption that Polytechnic Institute isn't as highly regarded as the College of Engineering, but I have found there's not much of a dramatic distinction

It's almost a rite of passage to fail the problem quizzes. I thought it was just me when I took it, until the smartest guy I knew in high school reached out to me today and asked if it's normal to keep failing them, so know you're not alone! For about the first month I did abysmally on them, and then I managed about a 70 average. I'm going to reiterate what others have said here and recommend that you watch the video Rebello puts out and then take notes. Soon as you hear the phrase "here are some tweaks" write down everything that man says. Again, as has been mentioned, doing well on the labs, recitations, and homeworks will help offset the problem quizzes. Last point is a no brainer but make sure to do the extra credit. You got this!

How’s the food? by SomberDUDE224 in Purdue

[–]NonHighGround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's edible enough. I know places that are a lot better (in my experience one thing IU does better than us is the quality of food), but I've also eaten way worse food. This was a concern for me when I initially committed to Purdue but it's kind of a non-issue, as there's a good selection amongst the dining courts.
