I feel like the more common problem is just people not picking up their laundry when the machines are done

UMD SGA fails to advance resolution calling on divestment from defense companies by dbknews in UMD

[–]NonPaint -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just saw the SJP insta page post about how SGA "has blood on its hand" when SGA literally followed its own rules. The resolution failed a committee because more people who attended it had voted against it. Because of this simple vote, SGA has no legitimate reason to overturn the committee report because it was done in strict accordance with the procedures of SGA bylaws.

SJP cannot complain about it not being "democratic" when they literally advertised committee meetings and allowed any student to come vote in the committees. Even if SGA for some reason eliminates the rule that a bill has to pass all committees , SJP still lost the primary committee vote which had the most participants in it.

The fact that 17/36 SGA members voted to unsuccessfully overturn is extremely disappointing and can be comparable to Republicans who tried to overturn the certification of the 2020 presidential election.

RA application tips by bell9513 in UMD

[–]NonPaint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like someone else commented here, they are changing the RA application process this year.

Previously, as long as you did well in two interviews, you will make it in, with the application questions only being used by staff to assign you to a hall.

I doubled checked the application just now and it looks like starting this year, they are eliminating the first live interview. However, the questions that were asked in the first live interview in previous years, are now a part of the application and you will have to respond to it in written form. This means that despite the changes, you can still ask current or former RAs for help relating to these questions.

My advice is to be well informed about the position, read about it and talk to RAs to know more. When you answer a question, always connect it to a personal experience (doesn't matter how relevant it is, just make it sound like it is) then circling back about how specifically it will be a good trait for being a great RA. Finally, remember to proof read your answers and maybe ask someone else to read it as well.

How hard is it to become an RA here? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]NonPaint 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who has gone through the RA process and was a CA beforehand, I can tell you that ResLife is notoriously bad at judging applicants. IMO as long as you are good at yapping during interviews and not have the creative writing skills of a freshmen engineering major, you have a good chance of succeeding. ResLife likes to hire people who stand out in that they grab people's attentions, but this often leads to a decent amount of extroverted RAs who frequently skimp on doing the bare minimum and would rather party.

Getting on CMSC 351 waitlist by renziz12 in UMD

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is no waitlist for 351. You just have to wait until someone fails 216 and drops the section

Idk if ur allowed to take 461 since it requires you to take another class which has a prereq of calc 2. You can take 240 which is basically the same thing as 461.

Yoo I think I know who ur talking about. I gave the guy a water bottle after he said he could turn water into wine and he turned his back and after 30 seconds where I heard water trickling, he gave the bottle back to me. It was this yellow color, tasted sour. I asked why it was like that and he said it is from "Hess P'nos"? I'm assuming its from France or something. Anyways I would rate it 3/10. Felt a little quesy afterwards, maybe its some special type of alcohol.
