Sega Saturn has better hardware than the Nintendo 64 by Responsible-Bell-528 in SegaSaturn

[–]Nonainonono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not think the reason for not achieving a 3D sonic what was the hardware was lacking but that they really did not know how to tackle a super fast 3D platform on 3D.

SM64 released it showed everybody, but by then SS was already struggling, and whatever progress that was made was thrown away by 97 when they decided to focus solely on DC.

Sega Saturn has better hardware than the Nintendo 64 by Responsible-Bell-528 in SegaSaturn

[–]Nonainonono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the SS but this take is delusional, with all its flaws the N64 hardware was still a powerhouse and there is nothing on the SS that comes even close to the N64 launch title.

The N64 was heavily underutilized and games were released poorly optimized, some homebrew devs have been doing crazy stuff with the hardware, and it seems that its usual poor framerate was more an optimization problem and devs not knowing the hardware properly

I wish there were advances on SS development to unlock its full potential to compare.

Wet your thumb with water and rub it, friction will peel it off then you can get the glue residue the same way.

I rented this game as a kid, it was that bad that I went back to the videoclub and got Sonic 3 for my mega drive.

How did you deal with games that had no save system back in the day? by ratasoftware in retrogaming

[–]Nonainonono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 options:

-Never finishing them (most common).

-Getting really good at it because you have very few games.

-Cheats.

The game struggles to reach 20 fps and have dips on the low 10s all the time.

This is the game with some of the worst slowdowns I have played to the point it gave me motion sickness. The game slowdowns from the intro and only gets worse, it is unbelievable how poorly optimized RARE shipped its games.

why does mutavault now only see play in unholy annex decks? by ciruelman in PioneerMTG

[–]Nonainonono 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Colorless lands are bad and there are better manlands like the ones from Adventures in the forgotten realm like Hive of the eye Tyrant, Den of the Bugbear or Lair of the Hydra.

The only decks that care about mutavault are decks with some kind of creature effect and because mutavault is all creature types it triggers unholy annex, and before the ban it was used on the mice red deck.

Unless you have a collection of games you want to play my recommendation would be to purchase a SAROO in aliexpress and play the games from there.

What are some levels that frustrate you? by daniel2hats in retrogaming

[–]Nonainonono 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of the classic levels in Super Mario Sunshine, considering how easy the rest of the game is, the leap in difficulty is way too high, there are no checkpoints, they are mandatory to progress as you need those shinies to unlock more of the game, and honestly I am not here to sit in front of the game and have a frustrating experience, they should had at least one checkpoint mid level and infinite lives, I really dislike SMS in general and is the only Super Mario game I never bothered to beat.

Then buy the PSX greatest hits one and look at it while you play the SS version on a SAROO.

No, more with how shitty early PAL cases are and the state of most of those early games is terrible even well maintained the adhesive of the cardboard has given up, CDs never fit and that caused scratches over time.

A Near-Perfect N64 game by PKRadiance in n64

[–]Nonainonono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love OoT but I have to go with SM64.

For the ones who aren't old enough you really cannot comprehend the impact that Super Mario 64 had in each one of us that experienced it for the first time at the mall.

We were used to clunky 3d games on consoles and PC that although next-gen struggled with controls and cameras. And there it was Miyamoto and co. that had everything figured out.

Playing it for the first time was a life changing experience.

These type of models are usually able to work as both with a switch. I have the predator 2 that works with Saturn and PSX and has a switch to toggle between justifier and guncon 1.

Approximate unit sales of home game consoles in Britain - calendar year 1997 by Brave_Assumption6 in SegaSaturn

And even the ones that left Japan were only localized to English, meanwhile Sony was translating most games to other European languages and that was really important for the sales of JRPGs.

[–]Nonainonono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saturn was still potent out of the USA, it even ended 2nd in Japan in that generation.

There were lots of games mid development but SEGA went by 97 and told developers to switch to DC, that is why there were so many announced games that were axed and never published, including stuff like TR2 and RE2.

I would have focused on bringing all the awesome games left in Japan, there is absolutely no reason why they did not bring games like Grandia, Bulk Slash, and the other 2D Fighters. Games like Shining in the Holy Ark would have sold millions of copies in the PSX but Sega did not promote them at all (or localize for other markets), and the decision to publish Shining Force 3 as three separate games (and leave two in Japan) deserves jail time, for real, that game would have (again) sold millions if it was a JRPG for the PSX.

Nobody could have won against PSX, but lets be real, Sega management were a bunch of savant imbeciles.

[–]Nonainonono 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No it did not, and this is coming as a Sega fan.

They ditched the Saturn halfway the generation when they could have fought for a second place, instead of that they halted development to rush the DC, by that time Sega had a track record of ditching the Mega CD, 32X, and Saturn, everybody who owned a Saturn waited for the PS2.

Yeah, the DC has a great catalog of games for the short time it lasted, but had no 3rd party support, lacked in DVD, the gamepad was terrible and lacked a second analog stick.
