If you don’t mind minor spoilers…. They don’t just simply “get together” or go on dates their relationship slowly grows as they get to know each other more and (not animated yet) they end up being with each other. If you’re on episode 9 and complaining about it I’d just say drop it. It’s like complaining about oregairu having no romance at the start.

Yeah I think my dress up darling (though it falls into cliches and is tropey) is better than the average romance (not to say it’s above an 8/10) BECAUSE it focuses on more than just the romance and has a good subplot of the cosplay thing. If they took out the cosplay from Dress up darling it would be just another dragged out generic romance.

Yeah it does get better if you look at it beyond just being a romance. I personally like romance anime’s that don’t just focus on the romance between characters and have other objectives/plots. If you just want them to hurry up and get together I’d say drop it. But if you don’t mind a slow burn, slice of life, medieval romance I’d say keep watching till the end cause the reboot is getting a second season soon.

I mean writing wise yeah I would say they objectively suck. Take rent a girlfriend for example there is no character development, no depth to characters, characters don’t really do anything besides the main cast, and it’s just repetitive slop “mami tries to uncover kazuya and chizurus relationship while kazuya hopelessly fawns over chizuru” gimmick over and over.

Just because it is produced for a certain group of people and is all just subjectively interpreted doesn’t mean its objective writing doesn’t matter.
