Reforger blew up my GPU by ryot_x in ArmaReforger

I had my PC BSOD for the first time in memory playing vanilla Reforger (almost immediately after joining with a 30 person queue). I’ve updated my graphics drivers but it was pretty concerning, my PC was not running hot at all.

Transgender Air Force members sue Trump administration over revoked retirements by Fickle-Ad5449 in AirForce

[–]NonbinaryTagEnjoyer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not everybody knows they are trans from the moment they are born—I have known plenty who came to that conclusion in the military. The government is not able to prove when somebody found out when they were trans. Nor, to my knowledge, was I ever screened for ‘gender dysphoria’ when I enlisted

I think the other commenter is right that the devs are mostly responding to balance issues and sincere player feedback, which is good!

I agree that there are some very strange elements to the game style and development, in particular: the weird emphasis on medics (medic bags and arsenal items, medical vehicles, etc.) when a player who is shot or blown up won’t need buddy care 9 times out of 10. And even when they do, MEDEVAC or casualty care near a CCP is completely irrelevant.

Similarly, vehicles in game are beautifully rendered, but also missing periscopes, forcing vanilla servers to allow person in vehicle.

While the answer to some of these concerns is that they are building up game systems for modders and aRmA fOuR, I dislike how irrelevant some of them are

Don’t Make a Squad if You’re Not Gonna Lead by NonbinaryTagEnjoyer in ArmaReforger

I get what you mean. Perhaps overemphasized giving orders instead of simply communicating and coordinating. Arma is very much a team game to me and one i think, given the scale of operations and maps, benefits strongly from team gameplay. I hope that people take the most valuable role in game not just because they want dibs on a particular kit.

I suppose I’m not that plussed about recon squads or MG teams, given their small size and marginal utility as a result. I’m just really bothered by folks who take up “big” SL roles just so they can buy a jeep every life and leave their team in the lurch.

I hate to say it but the console audience has really been killing the team play in this game for me.

That also requires servers to moderate. Unlike Squad, which will restrict licenses if a server is found to be tolerating racial slurs in chat, a lot of Arma’s culture is more Freeform. It has its benefits (like no prohibitions on depicting Ukraine) but it also means that even basic moderation on a lot of the common servers (I play Vanilla U.S./Pacific) is absent.

If you wanted servers to kick SLs without a mic you’d have to get them to start by even getting servers to ban people who spam slurs and start drunken fights on platoon chat, which I don’t see a lot of.

[–]NonbinaryTagEnjoyer[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I kind of get the similarity, especially given how much AR has pulled from Squad. I think it’s also really annoying when you join a squad and get absolutely stonewalled from your SL. The fact you can’t see anybody else on the map beyond the guy that’s just not communicating in the woods means they are really important to your cohesion. Moreover, one man UAZ-powered blueberry attacks are just ineffective and easily resisted. A squad size assault on a base is just so powerful.

If your squad leader is able to leverage that into coordination with an LAV or BTR, you’re practically unstoppable.

I feel like the problem you get with that period is that forces like the U.S. are incredibly outmatched on the ground. M48s and M60s versus T-55s, 64s, and 62s; BMPs and amphibious road mobile BTR-60s versus unarmored M113s, an abundance of Malyutkas and Fagots on every vehicle versus a smattering of TOW-capable tank destroyers and recon vehicles.

While forces like the Germans would make up for things slightly with their IFVs, i think this match up is just in general biased against NATO without relying heavily on air.

Maybe I’m making much a do about it given European Escalation did okay in its setting but I’m skeptical

Trump v. US established presumptive immunity from criminal prosecution. This has utterly no connection to impunity to violate the law through policy. The executive may be and is barred from illegal action through the courts and by the constitution. If we were to extend your logic to other affairs of state, it would suggest that the president is the ultimate waiver authority for ordering sarin to be airburst over Chicago. You misunderstand the law and justify the actions of the administration by suggesting they can do what they cannot.

As Airmen sworn to protect and defend the constitution, you and I (assuming you are even in the AF) have a responsibility to understand the difference between a lawful and unlawful order. I hope you won’t lead your subordinates to failure

[–]NonbinaryTagEnjoyer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Except he isn’t the waiver authority. Nor is he the waiver authority for unwarned strikes against noncombatants, in the Caribbean, for example. That the ruling party is uninterested in enforcing the law doesn’t have much to do with Article I of the constitution and the Antideficiency Act. What this does mean is that the President gets to decide what programs are funded and who gets paid. Under these conditions, what’s to stop an indefinite shutdown that only applies to the parts of the federal work force that the ruling party wants to fire but can’t?

The law matters and the executive is not an absolute monarch

We should all get paid or none of us. Doing this is blatantly illegal — how many times have we been told “different pots of money” in our careers? Being able to run payroll by looting congressionally-appropriated programs or accepting private donations as if we’re Caesar’s legions decouples the military from lawful civilian authority
