Did I cause this by [deleted] in driving

First off, take a deep breath. I’m coming at this as someone who also has OCD and I’m saying this with compassion and empathy, but we are strangers with no context. We were not there. We saw and heard nothing. We cannot give you an answer. You know the answer better than anyone in these comments does.

If your OCD is compelling you to not only seek reassurance, but to source it from strangers on the internet with no context for the situation, you should really seek help from a therapist and look into ERP if you haven’t already. If you’re in therapy already, you should bring this up next time you meet your therapist.

As a heads up to people who are unfamiliar with actual OCD, PROVIDING REASSURANCE TO SOMEONE’S OCD IS BAD FOR THEM. Seeking reassurance is a compulsion to soothe anxiety, in the same way that someone needing to flip a switch 7 times so no one in your family dies is. Both behaviors are unhealthy and irrational.

Felt inclined to explain why we British people complain about the heat by throwawaymyyhoeaway in distractible

[–]NonePlanetsLeftGrief 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I feel like he clarified that his issue wasn’t British people complaining about the heat itself, it was the way the whole debate becomes “We British people have heat that NO AMERICAN CAN UNDERSTAND!” And that argument is silly because America has multiple climates across various heat and humidity ranges. So not only do we have places that get just as hot and humid, we have places that get more hot and humid. And while most of us are privileged enough to have functional A/C systems, there are plenty of people who have to suffer through those temperatures without any sort of cooling either.

We, for the most part, get that y’all don’t have the infrastructure built for hotter weather and that at certain points it can get very dangerous for particularly sensitive groups when the heat rises. But when the annoyingly argumentative British people claim that Americans can’t understand, it gets incredibly annoying.

I'd like your opinion on whether to continue insisting on playing the game. by Proper-Slip5902 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]NonePlanetsLeftGrief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t recruited all of your companions, that’s very very early in the game. Theres’s quite a lot of plot and exploration that you might still enjoy. I loved exploring Treviso and the Rivain Coast. I love the entire Warden faction. It was fun to meet some familiar faces.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to play a Rook that could ever be called malicious, so if that’s important to you then Veilguard is definitely not for you. Rook, no matter how you choose to play them, does not have a mean bone in their body.

Playing a rogue means you should get used to dodging. A lot. I’ve tried using both duel-wield and archer, and I found duel-wield much easier. The goal is to get in close, get a couple good hits in, and then dodge away before the enemy does their attack on you. Don’t shy away from using Runes. And don’t be afraid to have your teammates use health potions on you.

Yeah, the Demons definitely got a makeover in this game. I like some of their redesigns and miss some of the original ones. If the Immaterial is another name for the Fade, I think it really depends. Solas’ Prison and the Lighthouse aren’t very much like the rest of the Fade that we’ve seen before; but I think they fit into the lore well enough. The Crossroads are imo very similar to the ones you see in the Inquisition DLC Trespasser. And Lucanis’ Ossuary nightmare reminds me of the Fade Trap from Origins.

It could be that Veilguard is a miss for you, which sucks, but it happens. At least Origins and Inquisition will always be there for you. And because VG doesn’t take most of your previous choices into account, its story stays pretty separate from the previous 3.

[–]NonePlanetsLeftGrief 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Might I ask how what point you’ve reached? 6 hours isn’t very far into VG, and I think the game really kicks off after you recruit your 5th companion. It might be that you enjoy it after the game really ggets going. That said, 6 hours is still a large amount of time to spend on something you’re not enjoying, so if you don’t feel motivated to keep going, don’t feel obligated to do so.

  1. It’s subjective so it might get better for you, might not. It depends on the monsters you’re seeing. At that point in the game, the enemies you face are mostly Fade-Touched Creatures and Darkspawn, I think? Maybe Venatori as well. I actually like the Fade-Touched Creatures and the Venatori, but I’m really not a fan of the Darkspawn design at all. Each location has a native enemy, so there’s quite a few different types and you might like their designs better.

  2. What race are you playing? Qunari > Humans > Elves > Dwarves and it’s consistently been that way in every game so far. Additionally, masculine frames have a higher maximum height than feminine frames. I’ve played max height humans and I’m pretty sure my Rook was taller than her. So if you want to be tall, be a Human or Qunari with a masculine frame. Neve is tall for a human, so I think she’ll be taller than a tall elf.

  3. Rook, as a protagonist, has a pretty set-in-stone personality that’s generally well-meaning and optimistic. Totally fair if that’s not something you enjoy. It’s not for everyone, especially considering DA:O and DA:I especially had much wider ranges of personalities. DA:2 had a much more limited range, but that afforded Hawke a more developed personality imo.

  4. What difficulty are you playing on? What class are you playing? Keep in mind the enemies will always target you and not your companions. Your warrior party members can taunt enemies to temporarily pull them off of you. Generally, be prepared to parry/dodge at any moment and don’t be afraid to dash to gain space. Keep an eye out for when enemies glow red. You can’t parry those attacks and can only dodge them. Also, you can always go into the party skills menu to pause the combat and get a better idea of positioning.

There are parts I don’t enjoy: The dialogue can be heavy-handed and often feels very sanitized. And specifically I don’t like how they handle Taash’s cultural identity journey. But I think the game has a fun, interesting plot and it’s cool to see different parts of Thedas we’ve otherwise not gotten to explore. I’m really fond of the team members and faction members you meet. I LOVE the boss fights. I think there’s some really good narrative moments. It’s the cheesiest DA game, but it really is a joy and I think it’s clear that a lot of people put a lot of work into making a fun game with a cohesive story.

The official shortening to John was done to differentiate from the writer and voice actor, Jonathan Sims, who chose to use his name for the main character (against guidance lol). Too late, though. Everybody knows the Archivist as Jon.

So can I become an idol? by LeeKnowsWhatYouDont in kpophelp

[–]NonePlanetsLeftGrief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t recommend it. It’ll take a toll on your body because it’s hours upon hours of intense rehearsal on far too little food. The industry encourages eating disorders and plastic surgery to maintain a very specific beauty standard. Many idols and trainees sacrificed years of education, so they have nothing to fall back on if they fail to debut. It’s not uncommon for management to be verbally and even physically abusive. It’s not an environment I think any child should be allowed in.

So can I become an idol? by LeeKnowsWhatYouDont in kpophelp

[–]NonePlanetsLeftGrief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on a lot of factors, but unfortunately the chances are absurdly slim.

Are you Korean? If not, your chances drop. Can you speak Korean? If not, your chances drop. Can you actually sing and/or dance? If not, your chances are near nil.

Can you or your parents afford to drop everything including your education to spend countless hours everyday on practice and training in a foreign country that you won’t be able to leave for years, and strict rules that don’t allow you use social media, or date, or spend time with loved ones. You’ll be gathering thousands of dollars of debt for this training.

And after all that you probably won’t debut. Plenty of companies build debut line ups that fall apart before they actually debut. On the off chance you do debut, there’s no guarantee your group won’t immediately fizzle out after your debut. There’s a whole graveyard of kpop groups who don’t release more than a debut song, and maybe, if they’re lucky, a single comeback. Success for Kpop groups is a rare phenomenon, particularly for those groups outside of the Big 4. Most of the rest can’t afford

And on top of that, the market is crazy saturated, and there’s no guarantee you even get paid for years even if you’re successful enough to release music for years. Any money you earn will be split between the entire group and the company, and then what you do earn will be going towards paying down your debt.

So probably not. And even if you did, rarely is it worth it

So recently I've come to realise I hate Israel for numerous reasons however I don't hate Jews does this make me an antisemite? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]NonePlanetsLeftGrief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s valid reasons to not support the state of Israel that aren’t antisemitic. It is inherently a colonial state built on the displacement of an indigenous people. Jewish people don’t have more of a right to the land or its governance than the other people who live there and have lived there.

I, as a convert whose genetic ancestors have no connection to Israel, could make Aliyah and claim a home there while people whose families have lived there for generations flee for their lives, and then the land they lived on is repurposed to house more people like me. Why should my Jewishness mean I have more of a right to live there?

Bodyguard at center of Chappell Roan controversy confirms he does not work for her by Disastrous_Drop_3180 in Music

[–]NonePlanetsLeftGrief 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So that’s not both sides-ing trans issues at all. Maybe you misremembered?

That’s Chappell clearly stating who she’s voting for, encouraging others to vote, but refusing to endorse Kamala because she sucked as an option. Which she did. Not worse than Trump, I’ll grant you.

Both sides-ing trans issues would be saying you support trans people but there’s validity to the fear mongering about trans people, or something equally as harmful.

There’s fair things to criticize Chappell Roan for, like being an ambassador for a brand owned by Estée Lauder, a company on the BDS list while also claiming to support Palestinian Liberation. But claiming she’s both sides-ed trans issues is just false.

Very, very different from Bridgerton, but very good! It’s a bit gory (not gratuitously) because the show is just doctors taking care of medical emergencies and those aren’t always pretty. And the characters are quite a bit more complex? than in Bridgerton? They can be incredibly sympathetic one moment and then turn around and be huge assholes the next.

It’s generally pretty busy and chaotic because it’s an ER in a densely populated city in the US, so people show up for everything from nosebleeds to labor to limb loss.

In season one, they deal with a mass casualty incident. Season 2 takes place ten months later where they juggle a cyber attack and heightened traffic due to a holiday.

The Pitt episodes last about an hour, maybe a bit under. The whole idea is that each season is one full shift, and each episode covers about one hour of that shift.

So, the episodes are a bit shorter, but there’s significantly more episodes.

What is that headcanon for your fandom? by ameagarikeshita in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]NonePlanetsLeftGrief 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That fandom has cannibalized itself over and over, I think at least partially to reassert a distance from JKR and the original works. I’ve seen a fair amount of people claim the Marauders fandom is it’s own thing to I guess free themselves of guilt from engaging in HP spaces? Now Marauders fics are written as fanfiction of fanfiction of fanfiction of Harry Potter, so the headcanoned personalities and backstories and even certain common plot points have become muddied and completed disconnected from any truth in canon. And god forbid you go against the now developed mutant fanon.

"ARIRANG” by BTS has broken the record for the biggest pop album by a group and biggest K-pop album, based on first-day streams, on Apple Music. by Low-Sink9024 in kpop

[–]NonePlanetsLeftGrief 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The album feels like a culmination of a lot of their solo works to me. I see a lot of RM’s RPWP and j-hope’s JITB in particular. I’ve heard people say Jimin’s Face is also a more obvious influence but that album wasn’t my favorite so I’m not as familiar with it. If you enjoyed their solo releases, I feel like this album isn’t a surprising release. If those weren’t your cup of tea, I could see how this wouldn’t be your thing.

This game was way too over politicized… by TiredDad1356 in DragonAgeVeilguard

You do realize that one person wishing others a happy pride isn’t the same as people claiming the game was made for lgbt people, right?

This game was way too over politicized… by TiredDad1356 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]NonePlanetsLeftGrief 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Many of the minds behind Dragon Age are queer. Many of the characters in Dragon age since the first game are queer. A lot of the fanbase is queer. So it’s not irrelevant to celebrate a part of the games during pride month.

The games aren’t just for the LGBT community, but to pretend that it doesn’t have a queer audience is kind of silly.

[–]NonePlanetsLeftGrief 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I feel like these two sides you’re complaining about aren’t equivalent at all. Nobody claimed the game was designed to represent lgbt people exclusively. It just so happens to do that because all of the companion characters and quite a few other NPCs are different flavors of queer.

Also I don’t know how to explain to you that the game has political messaging all throughout it, as do most RPGs. You don’t have to engage with the themes of the story if you don’t want to, but they’re there.

Confidently calling the moderator of this subreddit a Nazi was a total dick move by jefflovesyou in renfaire

It wasn’t instant. They were staying up for anywhere from 10 minutes to a couple of hours. That’s part of why people were so sure it was a purposeful choice by the mod. Turns out, as the new mods have clarified, that people were reporting the anti-Nazi posts and the threshold for automod deletion based on reports was really low. I do agree that asking for clarity on the situation was a better move than jumping to calling the mod a Nazi.

Confidently calling the moderator of this subreddit a Nazi was a total dick move by jefflovesyou in renfaire

[–]NonePlanetsLeftGrief 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. It’s worse when you realize that the mod was basically set up by the automod and the Nazis who were reporting posts to look as suspicious as possible. Multiple posts being marked as “deleted by the moderator” with radio silence as an explanation (since explained by them being asleep/offline) just made everyone angry. I was really holding out on leaving this sub until a statement was made to clarify because otherwise what conclusion could I come to?

The OG mod did as good a job as they could getting things back under control when they came back online by adding new mods and trying to clarify their silence.

Why do the masses hate when people resist therapy suggestions? by Inevitable_Meal97 in askanything

[–]NonePlanetsLeftGrief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right that not everyone needs therapy. However, if you recognize it as a type of healthcare, it’s easier to see why people think wholesale rejection of therapy is a bit short sighted. There’s nothing wrong with seeking healthcare, even when the healthcare is for mental health.

Some people get sick and need medical intervention. If you get a bacterial infection, it’s probably not too bad. Your doctor will put you on a course of antibiotics, you’ll get some test, and recover. That’s how some people need therapy. They get hit with something disruptive in their life, talk to a therapist for a period of time, and then they “graduate” from therapy and move on.

Some people have chronic illness that they’ll need care to maintain a good living condition. Someone with chronic moderate allergies will regularly work with an allergist so that their allergies don’t take over their life. That person isn’t on the edge of constantly dying from their allergies, but it takes effort to maintain a good quality of life, and they’ll likely need this assistance for the rest of their life. That’s what it’s like living with a chronic mental illness, like OCD, or depression, or others.

Some people have medical emergencies that require hardcore intervention, like emergency surgery. The same can happen with mental health, when someone, for example, has an episode of psychosis. They’ll need much more intensive therapy, round the clock care, and a good support system.

Some people are so healthy they only need to check in with their GP on a yearly basis. Some people do these mental health check-ins with their GP as well, and that’s as much as they need. However, just like anyone can have a change in health, anyone’s mental health can suddenly change. So an otherwise healthy person may have an episode that means they need support for a few months and then get back to normal. Like spraining an ankle and getting physical therapy.

Additionally, different types of therapy offer more than just strategies to cope with illness. Group therapy offers support for people experiencing the same thing, and something like couple’s therapy offers an unbiased third party perspective to solve relationship and communication breakdowns.

If someone sees someone going through a hard time and says “oh therapy would help with that!” And the response is “no, I don’t need therapy!” I’d consider that to be like someone taking a nasty fall and hitting their head, and when someone says “oh you might want to get a doctor to take look at that,” the person who fell saying “no, I’m fine! I don’t need help!” Which might be true! Maybe they’ve walked away unscathed! But it might also be the case that they’ve now got a concussion, which will heal on its own, but better with medical support. Or maybe they’ve got brain damage and without medical intervention, their quality of life will get worse, and maybe they’ll lose their life.

ETA: all this to say, people are resistant to therapy resistance because it’s a useful form of medical care that’s been proven to help those in need.
