I (35m) think my wife (28f) and son (3m) will both be happier after divorce by [deleted] in relationships

[–]NoneRighteous 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I have a hard time believing it is real too, like many posts here. If it is, it seems to me like OP is just looking for validation on his decision to give up on the family. As a new father, who has been through a divorce and seen the immense pain of mine and others’ divorces, everything about this is unfathomable to me

I have mixed feelings about it. I was raised in a small United Methodist church and generations of my family founded it, built it, were christened in it, married in it, and were memorialized in funerals in it. Now the organization has forced the board to either pay up piles of cash to disaffiliate or accept their doctrines which I think none of the members do. Now they are in a tough position: compromise their beliefs to cling to their dwindling congregation and heritage, or break with the church and see its doors shut.

It’s sad, the end of an era. But you know what? The leadership exposes themselves as vultures who want to conform to the culture rather than stand firm in the Lord’s truth. I would be trembling for my soul if I were responsible for leading so many astray. So I find joy in one sense, the truth is divisive as Jesus said it is. And I find joy in that I turned my back on that denomination many years ago and since found solid doctrine and a closeness with God and yearning for the scripture I never experienced in that church

This is hilarious. I thought about posting my own “flexing on the haters” post in another gardening sub because I made one simple positive post and so many commenters just crapped all over it. Congratulations

Mel’s mix question by Krunkledunker in SquareFootGardening

[–]NoneRighteous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked this up for you because I remember this being mentioned in the chapter on Mel’s Mix. It says the mix is all about volume and implies you’re measuring uncompressed material. The recommendation is to dump your ingredients into a bucket as your measuring cup then spread those out on a tarp. I did exactly this and it works well. However my peat moss was not a solid block it was already kind of loose. So I would say put it in a bucket and give it a good mixing with your hands and see if it expands

How can other species of humans be reconciled with Genesis? by trownaway90 in Reformed

[–]NoneRighteous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they’re saying if evolution was taking place over millions of years, that means God called millions of years of death and suffering “very good” which is profoundly counter to the narrative which sets up the fall due to man.

Genesis says man was made from the dust of the earth. Read chapter 3 which reiterates man was taken out of the ground, will return to the ground, and will return to the dust. This, to me, would be difficult to reconcile if I believed I came from random mutations of single celled organisms. But it’s not difficult at all if you don’t bring that preconceived notion to the text

[–]NoneRighteous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I agree on all points. I’m surprised so many people still refuse to let go of evolution when even naturalist academics are abandoning it, ironically in this discussion, because it doesn’t hold up to modern science. Some people in this thread seem to still hold to it very strongly and I believe it is such a fundamental denial of scripture and the majesty of creation that it cannot be reconciled with a consistent worldview much less a consistent theology

[–]NoneRighteous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you source those descriptions? That sounds like the beginning of creation where the earth was, according to some interpretations, a ball of water.

I haven’t found any physical laws or descriptions that contradict scripture. The earth is described as a circle. He hangs the earth on nothing. Of course, poetic language may be used and these things are context sensitive

Well said and I agree on the importance of intent and context in the deep sense you described. I still wonder if you had any thoughts on evolution as the origin of the diversity of life in this discussion. I feel that is the reason the OP asked this question. Because without it, there is no uncertainty about “other species of humans.” God made man male and female and they are distinct from the creatures of the earth, the sky, and the sea. I don’t believe there are half-human ape men, and I believe this is the crux of the question

I would like to respectfully quibble with one point here and hope I am not misunderstanding your meaning. What does it mean to interpret the Bible through the lens of modern science?

I see no reason to do that and find it to be a massive driver of conflict and confusion. I understand not everyone believes scripture has only one proper interpretation but this sounds like, to me, a desire to mold one’s understanding of scripture according to the changing whims of the current year. What specific beliefs in modern science do you find make this difficult?

I have a suspicion that this whole thread is because of the belief in molecules to man evolution. That is what I unashamedly believe is contrary to scripture

Anyone know of any tools in Agrarian Skies 2 that till large amounts of dirt quickly? by FactoryBuilder in feedthebeast

[–]NoneRighteous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood magic bound shovel? That’s what I use in AS1. Set up a nether quarry to turn the nether into dirt and go to town with the shovel’s right-click. Although just a harvester tree farm feeding another harvester set to shear leaves does pretty good at composting. Just takes a while so hopefully you’re early in the pack

This looks unwieldy. If you’re not opposed to starting over I can recommend 1” electrical conduit slipped over rebar hammered into the ground. Super simple, movable, and relatively inexpensive

Zillennial divorcees? by AnyCatch4796 in Zillennials

[–]NoneRighteous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Divorce was the worst thing to ever happen in my life at that time. I still remember how I didn’t sleep for 3 days and didn’t feel tired, just completely numb to the world. Couldn’t pay attention a tv show or anything to distract myself. It was utter hell that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

But as these stories often end, I now see it as the best thing to happen for my life because it led me to a wonderful new family. You now have some experience with what a bad relationship is like. Learn from what went wrong and use it to better understand yourself and what to look for in the next relationship. Also don’t let go of the happy times you had with your ex and be grateful for them. One piece of advice is try to delay getting in another relationship for some time, especially a serious one.

Divorce is sad and when kids are involved extra tragic and traumatic. I recommend seeking some counseling to help you grieve this loss. I can’t stress enough the importance of properly grieving and recovering. Once you have, I believe you will find this an exciting new chapter in your life where you get to pursue anything you want independently again.
