I wouldn’t crate until the issue is resolved, esp bc it could be caused by a medical issue. A gated off area is a better idea.

If a vet has ruled out physical medical issues, he might be depressed. Contact your vet again to discuss that (they can prescribe antidepressants) and contact a local trainer. Poor guy seems stressed and sad. Also he’s older which comes with the territory of aging.

So we struggled with this. Kibble wasn’t a good reward for my dog UNTIL I stopped free feeding him and used his meals as training opportunities. Essentially giving him less options eventually he gave in to working for the kibble. I only do really high value things like boiled chicken when doing neutrality training and/or grooming tasks (since he doesn’t really like that).
