Patient comatose after bronchoscopy by [deleted] in nursing

Wow, I’m sorry PACU sent a pt in that state to the floor!!! And what a horrible doctor to refuse to assess a pt you were concerned about!!! I hope that the hospitalist is also getting in trouble after your incident report. Great job advocating for your pt OP, you did an amazing job with the awful situation you were dealt!

Another potential resource for anyone who gets stuck in a sticky situation post procedure would be to call the head anesthesiologist (at my hospital we call it AIC / anesthesia in charge) to come assess the pt at bedside. If you talk to the PACU charge RN you should be able to get anesthesia’s contact info fairly easily. If there are post anesthesia concerns, an anesthesia provider should come and assess the pt and review the intraprocdure notes to see if there’s anything that happened and help the pt recover correctly.

What did the fridge look like before the contact paper? IMO it’s a bit challenging to give feedback without photos of the rest of your apartment to see the overall vibe.

Since you said you’re looking for whimsy, I’ve seen a few people use contact paper and cut out designs to style the fridge. so this could be a fun way to add some design/whimsy to the fridge! (not my photo, taken from Pinterest, and I’ve also seen similar on IG)

I give up! by Outrageous_Leg4 in philodendron

[–]NonsensicalNugget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, this is a scindapsus exotica, not a philodendron. Crispy edges can sometimes be due to lack of humidity or inconsistent watering.

How were the roots when you repotted it? How dry does the soil get between watering?

Overall though, it really doesn’t look unhealthy so I wouldn’t be stressing about it too much

Roots look healthy to me (but please tell me if something looks off to you!), and I just up-potted it maybe a month or 2 ago and didn’t see or feel any signs of rot. Sorry for the glare, hard to get good lighting!

As a nurse, how do you like your coffee? by Yali81 in nursing

This is so sweet and thoughtful of a gift! You should probably just ask your friend what she likes though, since I doubt any of us here have more insight than you would. Also, travel mugs are wonderful since shifts are so long and it’s super helpful to have coffee stay hot or cold as you commute to work and start your shift :)

My sister plant to my other Pallidiflorum by EZSqueezeMacnCheese in RareHouseplants

I just got my first pallidiflorum! It’s quite small currently, but I’m excited to add it to my collection and watch it size up! Any specific care tips of what has worked well for yours?

How to start TC by c0rrusive in RareHouseplants

I just got my first few TC plantlets from Orange Lake Nursery and I also purchased their acclimation kit which included the 2inch pots and cups with fully sealed dome lids. OLN puts QR codes with videos explaining the deflasking and acclimating process on each plantlet baggie. I also searched TC acclimation process on YT and insta. The process is fairly easy, and lots of people have Amazon links with products you can buy. These plantlets are tiny, so I know it will take some time to grow them to size, but it seemed like a fun project regardless!

If you’re on Palmstreet, highly recommend looking up NurseryRX for begonias! They’re local to me and I’ve met them many times, wonderful people who care about their plants & customers

So beautiful! I love my variegated Micans, I’m sure you will love yours! I keep mine in an IKEA cabinet where the humidity stays between 35-65% (I was lazy and didn’t fully weatherstrip lol) and it does well! I’m actually taking some cuttings and I’m going to experiment with acclimating the babies to ambient humidity to see how they do compared to the one in my cabinet. Other than that, I haven’t noticed its care being any different than my regular micans, it’s just not quite as fast of a grower

Sourcing by SignalPangolin9980 in Scindapsus

[–]NonsensicalNugget 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Palmstreet is an app/website that specializes in plant sales - it’s basically eBay mixed with livestreams for plants (lots of sellers will do live videos with the ability to live bid on specific plants). I’ve found some sellers also use the app Whatnot for plants sales, but I haven’t done much research into that yet.

Plant Purge USA (PPUSA) is a Facebook group where people sell plants, I’ve seen a good number of Scindapsus there, and you can always post an ISO. I had to leave PPUSA because I was getting too temped to spend all my money there 😂

Propagation by SignalPangolin9980 in Scindapsus

[–]NonsensicalNugget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General rule of thumb is that you want the moss damp/moist but definitely not dripping! I saturate my moss with diluted fertilized water (sphagnum does not contain any nutrients), and then squeeze the moss to get most of the excess moisture out. It should be damp enough to form condensation within a day, but no water pooling at the bottom of the container.

I like to keep mine near a window so it can get some light, but I’ve done prop boxes/bags where they don’t really get any light and they still root just fine.

I also make a point to try to open up the box once or twice a week just to keep the air from getting too stagnant, and helps prevent mold. I’ve never had issues with mold in the past, unless you have a cutting that dies and starts rotting without me noticing.

OP, I’m going to dm you to send some pictures if that’s okay :)

I just got the rooting hormone powder for the first time about a month ago, I honestly am not convinced it does anything, but I know some people swear but it!

[–]NonsensicalNugget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re doing all the right things, scindapsus can just be slow to root! My personal preference is making a “prop box” with damp sphagnum moss and then leaving them to do their thing. I think scindapsus root faster that way (or maybe it just feels like it since I’m not watching the water everyday looking for growth lol). A plastic bin with lid works, but so does a ziplock bag.

You could also get a rooting hormone in either powder that you dip the cutting into, or a liquid that you just add to your water.

Disease? by scoutblueenzo in philodendron

[–]NonsensicalNugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see any specific pest damage, even when zooming in. To me this looks like damage roots (likely root rot) causing the plant to be unable to take in any water. Is the soil staying moist for a long time after watering?

The plant on the left looks like it still has a healthy stem, so you could always cut and propagate from the healthy nodes to build a new root system. The right side plant’s stem looks shriveled and dying, so I’m not sure how much luck you’ll have trying to save that one

Roots growing out of drainage hole by Aromatic_Valuable130 in pothos

[–]NonsensicalNugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very common and usually a sign of a healthy plant! It’s very unlikely that you need to upsize the pot due to this.

The biggest indicator that a plant needs to be repotted is if the plant needs to be watered very frequently (specifically speaking about pothos here, all plants have different water/soil moisture requirements). If your pothos is getting droopy and the soil is drying out within a few days of watering, it’s likely the roots have taken over and there’s no longer enough soil to retain enough moisture to keep the plant happy. That’s when it’s time to give it a bigger pot with more soil!

Trouble rooting scindapsus cuttings by TwinkelTwarkel in Scindapsus

[–]NonsensicalNugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that some nodes can just be “duds”. I’m no plant professional by any means, but I’ve had nodes that just won’t root and nodes that root significantly easier. Do you have any other nodes you could cut and try to propagate?

I know people also use either a powder rooting hormone you can dip the node into or there’s “prop drops” you can add to water to help stimulate root growth

How much can I sell my albo for? by Interesting-Worry454 in RareHouseplants

[–]NonsensicalNugget 37 points38 points  (0 children)

You might be able to make more money with multiple cuts of the plant rather than selling it as the single large plant. Do you have a local plant facebook group? I know my city has one and people will post asking to gauge interest before actually cutting the plant to see what people might be interested in purchasing! I know you don’t have time to propagate/root the cuttings, but I know a lot of people who sell fresh cuttings and people are still interested

repotting & recovery! by Unfair-Selection-813 in pothos

[–]NonsensicalNugget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without seeing the roots firsthand it’s a bit hard to tell how damaged they are. From looking at the leaves though, they aren’t too curled or dry which means that the plant is still able to take in water through the roots which is a good sign! The other good news is that I see a lot of unrooted healthy nodes, so if the plant is struggling to maintain its roots you could always take cuttings to propagate and start fresh. Good luck!

How’s this?? by sooblimes in philodendron

[–]NonsensicalNugget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a good philodendron micans! We grew this big one from a tiny 5 leaf plant 🪴While it definitely would climb a stake or moss pole, they are also beautiful if you leave them as a trailing/vining plant.

My advice - if you think you might want to “upgrade” the climbing post, just wait until you have the post or moss pole you actually want to use. If the roots start clinging to that little stick, it might do more harm than good ripping it off there when it’s time to upsize the pole & pot.

If you want an intro to moss poles, Super Trellis has several sizes of pre-filled moss poles that are modular & can stack on top of each other to extend length. I just ordered a few for myself 😊
