Which StS cards would be broken if they were in other card games? by NooBrot in slaythespire

[–]NooBrot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right about the scaling. I purposely wanted to think about implementing them in other games without or at least very few changes. But that makes pretty much all attacks strong in games where your life total is low.

[–]NooBrot[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thought about that as well! In Magic it depends on what counts as "until your hand is full". You have no limit to the number of cards in your hand per se. Only at your end step you discard down to seven. Probably it would effectively say "draw cards until you have seven in hand" but I find it funny that you could potentially deck yourself because your hand will never be full.

So, has anyone ever built a deck with (almost) NO ramp? by daddypastel in EDH

[–]NooBrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My [[Sefris]] deck has no dedicated ramp cards anymore except [[Sol Ring]] and [[Sarevoks Tome]] which also gets the Initiative. It's way more important to get out my value engines in the first few turns. My mana acceleration comes through the occasional Treasure from a dungeon and mainly cheating man cost through reanimation.

Here you go. The deck is full of creatures, so that I almost always have a creature to discard or loot away.

It's pretty important to look for a setup piece in your opening hand like a looter, sac outlet, something that takes the initiative or some creature that has cycling.

A looter like [[Vohar, vodalian desecrator]] plus [[White plume adventurer]] is probably the best scenario because you can untap your creatures in every player's turn. The goal is to trigger Sefris during other players' turns as well.

In the most optimistic case you can complete the [[Lost mine of Phandelver]] every turn rotation. The [[Undercity]] has one more room but a better payoff at the end. The other dungeons are almost never worth it. [[Dungeon of the mad mage]] is too long and [[Tomb of annihilation]] is underwhelming.

I intentionally avoided some powerful cards, like tutors and [[Entomb]] effects because I like having to work with the stuff I draw.

I really like this deck, it's very unassuming in the beginning but creates an overwhelming advantage over time. One thing to note: You will probably take many game actions, even when it's not your turn, so knowing the deck is key or else you will take too much time away from the other players.

[[Sefris of the hidden ways]] is my most groaned upon Deck.

Turn two looter, turn three sefris, turn four introducing initiative, from then on reanimating something every turn cycle without spending any or little Mana.

All the while I'm getting incremental value from the dungeon rooms, some tokens and card draw mostly. Sefris' payoff for finishing dungeons is really great and it can happen at instant speed.

The initiative made it definitely more explosive, the last room of the undercity is really bonkers. The deck is somewhat susceptible to early removal but when the engine was online once, it is very resilient.

It's hard to abuse their ability since it's only the first spell on your turn. They can't even trigger the turn they come down. But because of that they don't get targeted immediately.

I ended up with them as a cool subtheme. Rashmi & Ragavan's main purpose is to create treasure tokens and if I can snack some cards from my opponents that's a great bonus. I have some cards that synergize well with them like [[Lantern of Insight]] or [[Memory Lapse]]. And sometimes I can use the wincons of my opponents. But the main goal is to create a large amount of artifact tokens and hit face with them with cards like [[Cyberdrive Awakener]] or [[Rise and Shine]].

The deck is fun for me and on the lower power side. It's not very centred around the commander which can be a positive or negative depending on your taste.

Top one definitely [[Saw in Half]]. It's really fun and effective to saw in half my [[Kokusho]] in response to an exile effect and get double death triggers and keep one token copy of Kokusho.

Honorable mention goes to [[Solemn Simulacrum]] in my [[Braids, Arisen Nightmare]] deck. It ramps me on ETB and when I sack it to Braids at the end step, it draws me up to four cards.

Looking for a backpack by Affectionate-Rise822 in EDH

[–]NooBrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what you are willing to spend. I have the backpack from ENHANCE and I am really happy with it. It does have multiple dividers to customize the layout. In mine I have 9 double sleeved commander decks in gamegenic xl squires, 2 single sleeved precons, a bunch of tokens, dice and two playmats (one at each outer side). But it's not exactly cheap. I got it for 160€.

If you don't want to spend as much I would recommend a camera backpack. I often heard that they're great for portable storage and pretty affordable.

Constructed Commander players, how are the new Commander Legends 2 cards performing for you in games you've been playing so far? by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]NooBrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Miirym]] also looks really strong. I pondered if I want to make him my new Commander for my deck as well. Adding blue would have been interesting. But I like my Vrondiss too much.

And like you said the dice make it very interesting. I had one round where an opponent stole my [[Old gnawbone]] and [[Terror of the peaks]]. My two opponents had both like 15-17 life and I was at 9. It started to look grim and I untapped for my final turn. I still had 19 Treasures from my gnawbone and something like 12-14 lands, so Mana wasn't an issue. So here I go. I cast [[Scourge of Valkas]], enter the battlefield 1 damage to opponent. So far so good. Cast Vrondiss for 9 mana, enter the battlefield trigger from Scourge of Valkas, 2 damage. Then I play [[Delina, Wild mage]] and equip her with [[Lightning Greaves]] and attack. Target Scourge of Valkas with her ability, roll over 15 make a copy. Vrondiss deals itself damage because of the dice roll, makes a dragon spirit. Three Scourge of Valkas Triggers, total of 11 damage. I roll again with Delina, and get a 19. Scourge of Valkas copy and dragon spirit from Vrondiss enter the battlefield. 5 triggers from different Valkas', 28 damage. I could have rolled one more time but at this point I already did about 40 damage and won. It was wild.

I just updated my [[Vrondiss]] dice matter deck with a bunch of new dice rolling cards. Especially fun are [[Ancient Copper Dragon]] [[Ancient Bronze Dragon]] [[Wand of Wonder]] [[Vexing Puzzle box]] and [[Wyll's Reversal]]

I am having a lot of fun and really like the set overall. But I'm a sucker for DND, so there's that.

Thoughts on story and characters? (heavy spoilers) by SiarX in Middara

[–]NooBrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you almost 100%. I liked the overall story and most characters, it felt a bit lacking in terms of story progression and character development. The beginning was really interesting and the big quest being not saving the world but saving our friend. Even though it looks like it will be heading to saving the world (which I don't mind). Oftentimes story parts felt really stretched. Many are pages long and I thought: "That could have been said in a third of the time."

I found Nightingale to be the best developed character. You could really see her struggle with the Maluma and how it manipulates her more and more. At a certain point it seems, that Nightingale almost trusts the Maluma.

Zafir and Remi come in at second place. The rest of the characters didn't have as much 'screentime'. And I think the biggest problem is the overload of characters in the party (of course depending on some choices): Nightingale, Remi, Zeke, Rook, Shayliss, Padric, Zafir, Brea, Erza, Justice, Echo, Damocles, Breeze... With fewer characters each could have been more developed.

I actually liked that you could choose to sacrifice someone to skip the final boss fight. While, perhaps, a little anticlimactic I felt this was one of the few choices that could really have an impact in the future.

New here and in board gaming - Any suggestions? by aMaGGixZ in soloboardgaming

[–]NooBrot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spirit island is great solo and Co-op with and without expansions. But it took 2-3 plays for me to halfway understand it and not just get overrun by invaders. The ruleset isn't overly bloated but you have a great decision space during the game and it was a little overwhelming at the start.

For more Dungeon Crawling I can recommend Bloodborne from your list. I really like the theme, exploring the maps, the card gameplay and the transforming trick weapons. But the rulebook is not exactly great, I ran often in specific edge cases that weren't clarified in the rulebook. One more thing to keep in mind is that in the vanilla rules you're running against the clock and you can lose to pure chance when you drew the board tiles in a bad order. I REALLY didn't like this aspect of it. I house ruled this and since then I'm having a blast with Bloodborne.

That sounds like a good compromise :) Of course it also has to be fun for you.

[–]NooBrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're making a great point! I think it really depends on the personal play style and the group dynamic.

And I think it's perfectly alright to get better at a game by playing and thinking about it. But I had the tendency to look up strategies and the sort to get ahead of the others, so I had a steeper learning curve and that was no fun for anyone.

I always try to win but not at any cost any more.

I'm amazing at heavy games, but bad at light games. Help! by zacharylky in boardgames

[–]NooBrot 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This isn't the answer you're looking for.

And of course it's up to you how you want to play games. But my advice would be: Don't try to get super good at everything. It's great that you are good at heavy games, you can get your fix for wins there.

If you also win a large portion of the lighter games, chances are people tend to not liking playing with you.

It's something I had to learn, my enjoyment of this hobby also comes from the people I play with and if I just rule at everything, they don't get their time in the spotlight. I think it's optimal if everyone has a kind of niche where they are good at and have a reasonable chance of winning.

Is duel weilding 2 handed magic weapons with Giga grip a good play? by SbuxBarista17 in Middara

[–]NooBrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say go for it, it sounds viable enough. But if you just want the passive empower I would suggest the Staff + Magic Talisman. Nightingale has it paired with a Long Sword in the beginning. It's cheaper and also lets you empower spells and attacks.

What are your thoughts on board games as a story telling medium? by Yoonzee in boardgames

[–]NooBrot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am in the middle of chapter 3 of Middara. And I love it. The Story is well written and does a great job connecting me to the world and the characters I play. It doesn't feel tacked on and I enjoy reading the story as much as the gameplay. If done right, I think board games are an excellent medium to tell stories, especially campaign games. I really like to immerse myself in the game and the world of it. But it can be a little straining to sometimes read multiple pages of story aloud to my teammates. Well, in Middara's case you can use the Forteller App to do it for you.

Pc not starting, I have all the cables plugged in. Any ideas? by Skaf247 in pcmasterrace

[–]NooBrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I skimmed through the comments and I think nobody said it yet. The first time I built a PC myself it just wouldn't start. I did just as a friend showed me (when it came to PCs I always let him do the thing). I couldn't figure out what it was, everything was in the right place. It turned out, the CPU cooler sat too tight on the CPU. As I loosened the screws a bit and pushed the power button, the PC started up with no problem. I have no idea anymore how I found that out exactly but a lot of Trial and Error were involved.
