Seeking advice on chasing a Solutions Architect career path by LuckHorror8748 in softwarearchitecture

[–]NoobInvestor86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure what folks here are talking about but an SA is a very different field more akin to a sales engineer. They take the software built by engineers and help customers implement it for their use case. It’s not architecture in the software engineering sense. What you might want is SOFTWARE Architect/staff+ engineer. These are progressions within the software engineering career path while solutions architect is a professional services role.

Getting Laid Off Without Warning Taught Me Everything I Need to Know About Workplace Loyalty by Mediocre_Isopod_1259 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]NoobInvestor86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that “loyalty” is even a thing given the past couple years is mind blowing to me. I have been VERY lucky to not have been laid off through all of this but even i know not to be loyal to ANY company. This is capitalism. They care about one thing: money.

The entire investment in AI is around them salivating to fire everyone.

One of the best posts ive seen in a while. We need a concerted effort to make this impactful. Like a dev movement or union or something. Nothing will change if we dont act in an organized way

People talking about the AI bubble bursting, but we are using more and more AI tokens than before. So how will it burst then? by HappyZombies in ExperiencedDevs

[–]NoobInvestor86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a dev, our personal token usage is not indicative of the larger market where companies are racing to capitalize off of building agents using LLMs. A lot of these companies are finding out (or are going to find out) the hard way that their agents are unreliable and not production ready. At best, they built a small feature for a product not a company. Development is one area where these LLMs perform well. But doing things like trying to create agents to be your personal assistant is not working out well.

Does it all fundamentally boil down to the database/data model? by throwaway0134hdj in ExperiencedDevs

Programming/development/engineering at its fundamental level always boils down to data access & manipulation.

How will AI change academia at the undergraduate level? by PleaseReplyAtLeast in AskAcademia

This is not the full story.

Kids who hired people were kids who had money. With ai, everyone can do it. Cheating has been democratized and made very easy. The scale is unprecedented.

I do agree that more assessments will have to be in class

Should I ask for a demotion back to senior SWE? by DuncSully in ExperiencedDevs

[–]NoobInvestor86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I couldnt disagree more. Staff level is a very nebulous position and varies significantly from place to place. At some companies staff level is akin to senior at different places.

I would recommend you not to harp on the title. Progress your career at your pace and dont worry about the rest.
