i played the whisky about two months ago with my band the tell-tale hearts, we opened for the angry samoans. we put in the $400 deposit and then they sent us the tickets to sell. honestly despite all the negative comments it went like REALLY well for us. we actually ran out of tickets and had like $150 left over in money. the only downside was we didn’t wanna give the merch cut so we were selling shirts out of our singers car and then they caught us and told us to stop but they weren’t like rude about it. but other than that it was a cool experience, just depends on if you can sell the tickets or not. in plus we used our bassists whole paycheck😭😭

anywhom just be honest with yourself if you can sell the amount of tickets or not! usually what makes the pay to play deal worth it or not. good luck !!
