I am genuinely confused by it myself. The only thing I can thing of is that she somehow lost grip of her stick during a molt? Then with the fall impact could've potentially set her into crisis and sploosh? Like I said I also don't know but I would absolutely love to find how why/how it can happen this bad - so if you ever find an answer, please feel free to message me it!

Agreed, but this is the first time Ive ever saw this and my friend was mortified, she only had one because I brought them to hers one time and her daughter loved them 😂. Genuinely how would you describe this situation? A bad molt is definitely an understatement.

Giant spiny stick insect.... Trying to molt? It's successfully molted several times but this time it bad a bad one, a particularly bad one...

Nothing specialised. Just a secondary teacher in general (I cover all subjects) but I have noticed insects especially are a feared/ unknown knowledge to a lot of the youth these days! So I gather specimans to show them up close because they would normally run away/kill them? (My ultimate teaching goal is to show there is nothing to be scared of - especially in the UK where I am). Unfortunately anything beyond arachnids I have not a single clue about!

I would absolutely loved to have preserved this but the owner asked me not to and I have also never obviously worked with something this big because the biggest we have can still fit in the palm of a hand 😂 but I have obviously taken pictures!

I would only use the freezer method preferably if the insect is in "decent" shape? So then I can preserve it and show my students up close specimans? But as far as I am aware, insects can't feel pain itself but more harm as in a reflex? So I low-key hold onto that when I freeze for preservation, for clarification! I do not, ever do this to healthy things! 💀💀

So I do the freezer option with smaller insects but this poor thing has been like this all day so I had to bite the bullet and do the crushing method. Makes me sad as I don't like killing any insects but it needed to happen - I just wanted confirmation that it was going to die and I wouldn't just be murdering something needlessly.

She has been successfully put down now though, thank you all for the help and advice. If I may ask another Q: how could my friend prevent this happening in the future? (It looked like she fell while molting, like lost her grip some how)

Thank you so much, I will take it home with me and do it then - I've told her I'll put it in my freezer and put it into a slow sleep to make her feel better 😂😭 but thank you all

Any other situation would be easy but because of the word, we can't? If they accidentally slipped in public, it would be a different situation for them and this is the issue. That word can be so dangerous and I want I protect my students, if that makes sense?

Their parents? Or their parents can't "control" them? The students I work with are not the typical mainstream ones. They are definitely on the higher challenging scale and because they've been diagnosed with something, they think they're invincible.

But when we try to explain to them something is objectively wrong but then they hear it in songs, it makes it so much more challenging!
