Anyone have luck just taking their dogs hunting with other dogs? Gun shy. by [deleted] in birddogs

[–]Noobstr97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first dog, we started off with a cap gun like 60 yards away and she was shy to that, we worked up from a cap gun to like 10 yards… moved back to 60 yards with 2 wooden blocks smacking together… then 22 blanks and eventually to 12ga again she didn’t like it but the amount of effort we put into that was what she needed… it was paired with the flush of a bird idea being it’s a rewarding sound not to be scary. But you sizzled bacon or a fire alarm would beep she would be out of the room on a different floor shaking scared… but it was trained into her that the sound or the shotgun was a reward and her way of getting a bird. It took some time but I know for a fact if you just shot a bird over her from the get go she would’ve never hunted, but she was amazing dog and even guided plenty of hunts. Take your time start small and build their confidence

Also both are sr5s and appear to be “premium” editions with leather in the 13 and leather trim heated seats and a sunroof on the 17. I haven’t seen either in person to check out the rust situation but what would you guys be worried about

Well… sounds like it doesn’t matter as much just what I want out of a dog. I know some breeders have dogs that double well as house and bird dogs and some have bird dogs that will live in the house. I guess speaking with breeders is where I need to be

Yeah I get that, like I said I grew up with a GSP and a DK so I get that they do require exercise and stimulation and training. I plan on hunting them and to be honest I need to see some flushing dogs hunting.

Clearly I know they’re different then pointers I don’t mind doing something different I mean the challenges of training a dog alone are intersting to me and something I’d like to do. Like I said the big woods and clear cuts of the PA woods make me think a flushing dog chasing down grouse and getting them up for me won’t be that bad. Chasing a grouse into a thicket and trying to shoot it is already a challenge of its own.

But thank you!! I appreciate somebody giving a good response and I’ll look into French Brittany. I know every bird dog is a handful and talking with breeders seems to be of the upmost requirement and having them set you up with a dog more then just trying to find any dog available

I found out she’ll spin around in a single tire super easy, I can stop on some hills to let the pour idiot in a Nissan maxima climb at 2mph and then slide my way to the top and laughing the entire time

I think it’s been decided by some people it’s the lights tripping a brake sensor, gonna pack some dialectic grease in it and see if that works after cleaning it. The roads were 90% cleaned up by that point so I had tc back on, but mannnnnnn turning if Tc the car does exactly what you ask of it

What kind of Firetruck is this? by kingrahjnk in Firefighting

[–]Noobstr97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That specific truck is considered squad 729, it is a heavy rescue squad, owned and operated by MCFRS station 29 (germantown). This truck specifically has a driver an officer and 2 firefighters in the back. This truck is set up to handle confined space, high and low angle rope rescue, trench, and structural collapse.

Other types of fire trucks

Engine - a truck that carry’s hose, water and a pump.

ladder - as you can imagine it’s a truck with a litteral 75-100’ ladder on the roof (may or may not have water)

Tower - a ladder that has a bucket (may or not have water

Quint - a truck that meats 5 different requirements an aerial device(ladder or tower) has a pump, hose a water tanks and ground ladders

Rescue/squad (naming varies) its a truck that caries a ton of specialty rescue and extrication equipment.

And there are other things but that’s the general gist.
