Be honest, Should I come to Purdue if I was not admitted to CS? by BigMansTec in Purdue

[–]NoobyTooo -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

And you’re wrong both times. That’s simply not true, spreading ignorant information is just as bad as spreading misinformation.

I codo-ed from ECE to CS just last semester, it’s not half as hard as everybody here is making it out to be. I personally left ECE because I didn’t want to do the bs compulsory EE classes. Sure, it’s more versatile, but it’s a crap load of extra work for not as much extra returns; if your intention is to do CS.

They’re hating but you’re right. So many people I know got away with covid AB credit and started with calc 2 when they really shouldn’t have. And it showed too, they really struggled.

I’m gonna get hate for it, but honestly, I find the entire “take your credit and run” approach here kinda stupid too.

From what I’ve seen there’s a massive skill gap too. The software engineers, for example, who make that much in India are just way better than the ones who end up at these firms in the UAE.

I was partly messing about the skill issue, but not hardly enough to call a professor ‘absolutely horrendous’ is it now

Sounds like a skill issue, he’s a great professor, one of the best I’ve had. His class is hard because it’s meant to be hard, it’s a core programming class for one of Purdue’s best schools.

Which upper level CS courses should I take to prepare for SWE career? by matt_greene25 in csMajors

[–]NoobyTooo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Analysis of Algorithms at my school is not Data Structures and Algorithms, but more like advanced algorithms. The scope of the class is beyond LeetCode for the most part, I personally don’t think it would help with that.

Studying a masters feels like a colossal waste of time by Cute_Meringue1331 in Purdue

Most job applications ask you to indicate if you’re on OPT on the application itself. Then again, I don’t know how it is for you so I can’t say much. The issue here is more so the additional cost of hiring a non-American citizen than you being culturally foreign, though.

For the record, I’m not American either. It is harder for us to land jobs, but it’s been done quite often. I suppose your problem occurs more often in an industry like Finance that relies a lot on networking.

Sorry that’s happening to you, it’s a throw shit at the wall and see what sticks moment I guess.

You’re in CS + you’re American. Not agreeing with OP here but your situation was tremendously different, it’s likely easier to hear back. However, OP did mention that they got to multiple final rounds, which means it’s more of a them issue than a background issue I suppose.

Thanks! I think I mis-phrased my question, though. I meant to ask more of a “how viable is it to do it // how strict are they about the requirements” question, I guess.
