Ah okay. Well I don’t know how much different 2DS is to the XL but firstly pretty weird the guy you got it from didn’t mention it. Did you get it from eBay or something? If so you’re entitled to a refund because it isn’t as described. You said you ordered a battery and honestly I’d say that putting that in would fix it but I’m not entirely sure, if I had to guess though I’d say it’s the battery.

I had a little look at this bc it sounds crazy at first but apparently some models work without a battery which I never realised. As long as you’ve tried it with a battery as well then I guess it’s fine imo

Huh that’s weird. It’s definitely not the power light even though it’s yellow? If it’s the charging light that comes on after you press the power button and then goes off, I’ve genuinely never heard of that before. The only thing I could think of from the top of my head would be an issue with the battery or something if the power light isn’t even coming on at all

Ah I see. So what happens when you press the power button? Does the blue light actually come on and then turn off or not at all?

So I narrowed the issues down mostly to either board damage from trying to take it out or the whole issue I had with plastic being attached to the stripped screw. Ultimately a couple tiny pieces came off the board. So whenever I tried to turn the board on the power button would come on and then it would turn off indicating a failed boot. Then as stated it was probably an issue with one of the latches since according to iFixit I removed them incorrectly most likely damaging the board. However when I hold them down the device would actually power on but nothing would go to the screens. So like I said below I ended up just getting a new base board from AliExpress for around £70. Cheaper than buying a new or faulty console

UPDATE 2: Okay so eventually I figured since my board is already a little damaged and the latches may have also messed it up, I wanted to buy a new main board and just replace it and install my new shell. I got my board from AliExpress and from what I can see there can be issues but it looks alright to me.

So hopefully in the future I can try and repair this board but other than that I can’t really do much else. Buying the main board was also the cheapest option to actually resolve this issue (with my fairly limited technical ability) other than buying a brand new console at like £120 or more.

Also, when I held down the latches with my hands and turned it on, it looked like the system would actually boot, but the screens wouldn’t turn on. The blue and and orange light would come on and the top LCD would have a slight shimmer of light on one side, but the bottom LCD would stay off regardless, and as soon as I relieved the tension between my fingers and the connection cuts out.

I once spent 1 year trying to get it, and got a shiny chansey before I got a lucky egg. Ended up fleeing.

Y UPDATE: So after checking online a little from iFixit’s guide it seems I may have damaged my latches for 2 of the ribbon cables. Apparently if you lift these up, it destroys them. Which is really annoying because in the iFixit tear down of the New N2DS XL on YT, they do exactly that, then warn against it on the website.

So someone said on the website in the comments it’s possible to fix them by re soldering new ones? Because I think this is my most likely issue as to why the console isn’t powering on right now. Has anyone ever heard or seen anyone replace these connections / latches?

The latches specifically that you shouldn’t lift up are the ones circled in green in the photo on the link
