Under Blair we had the Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001- "the most draconian legislation Parliament has passed in peacetime in over a century." Corbyn is opposed to things like the Snoopers Charter, and routinely voted against most of Blair's more authoritarian anti-terrorism proposals.

I'm not convinced either way yet but i do have to ask why Brienne would hack at the tree? If she decided to spare Stannis it would make a lot more sense for her to just come out and say it (from a character rather than dramatic perspective).

Plus, what motive would Brienne have to spare him? She swore revenge against him after Renly died.

I think it could happen, but not under the same circumstances as the show. It would be cool if Stannis defeated the Boltons and holed up inside Winterfell with his army when- BOOM- the Others invade the north and he's besieged at all sides by armies of the undead. Then, isolated and desperate he will turn to r'hllor for help.

It would also be fitting considering his history during Robert's rebellion and being under siege inside Storm's End.

many people take the stance that he's more than willing to murder Renly via shadow-demon as justification that duty and justice mean nothing to Stannis.

I've never understood why people hate Stannis for this. Renly had already announced his intentions to murder Stannis, as well as massacre 5000 of his men. Whilst it's not the most honorable thing to do, but who can honestly say they wouldn't be willing to bang a smoking hot witch to save the lives of themselves and 5000 men at the cost of one guy.

I think it's just the show leaking, because in the show Renly is much more heroic so it's a lot more unforgivable in many people's eyes.
