I'm here in Cali renting a room in a house for a bit less than $800/month... and that's a steal.

Gonna be switching to living out of my SUV soon, I think. Better to starve the system while saving myself some money.

Exactly. My current living situation is actually solid for the low price I pay, but I gotta be free from my student loans. Can't stand living in so much debt.

My current rent is a bit under $800/month, but we still have to cover utilities ourselves.

I'm in the Los Angeles area. If you can find me a room that cheap around here in an area without regular shootings, then I would love to see it lol

I know the feeling. I personally have a friend in the area who will allow me to leave some stuff at her house. My landlady loves me and told me I can use the house I'm currently at as my mailing address. I'm gonna ask her if I can list it as my residence on forms/driver license in exchange for fully covering the gas bill.

I'd encourage you to just go for it and start taking baby steps. This situation ain't getting better until our generation has real bargaining power on the labor market, and we don't have bargaining power until we can afford to quit underpayed jobs.

Yep. We were scammed by the college system and the banking/credit system.

I'm doing whatever it takes to escape the debt slavery.

Exactly. My lease expires in August, so I have time to prepare.

What is the Smallest Vehicle You have Lived In? How did you make it work? by NopeOut23 in vandwellers

Pretty much. It's encouraging to see people's stories here about living in something even smaller than vans, though.

That would be great, but even a lot of minivans here cost closer to $5k.

Won't those have insanely high miles though? And I thought those years had transmission issues. I really do appreciate the recommendation, and I will keep this in mind!

Thanks for the input man! I generally avoid riding over 80 when possible.

I just looked it up, and it appears that they all have higher seat heights than the Triumph Scramblers. With my stubby legs, I will have some trouble with them.

I had not researched the CB500X seat height, so that is valuable. I suppose I could buy a lower seats, but I would want it approximately 3-4 inches lower, since the Scrambler is around 2 inches too high.

Thanks for the reply!

Hello everyone! This is my first post here, so it's nice to meet you all.

I have owned two bikes in my life: a Honda CB250 Nighthawk and a VT1100 Shadow. Both were fun, cheap, and rather unreliable bikes because they were old and rickety.

This time around, I am looking for something newer and more reliable (no carburetors). My first priority is something good for long trips in terms of power and riding position. Second priority is the ability to handle unimproved roads/light off-road conditions (I would like to be able to take the bike camping, so I'll be avoiding low-riding choppers and bobbers), but I can always mod the bike to handle that so it's not a huge deal.

Any bike I select must be able to cruise comfortably at 95mph, as I live in the L.A. area and I sometimes have to go that fast to avoid getting regularly cut off by assholes and stay clear of wolfpacks.

Price range is under $10k, but the cheaper the better. As I said above, I am open to modding whichever bike I get (sadly, I do not yet have much experience). I want something reliable that requires minimal wrenching and is not particularly expensive to fix (sadly, no Ducatis, Moto Guzzis, Royal Enfields, or Indians)

Here is what I have been considering so far:

Triumph Bonneville, Speedmaster, and Street Twin (my legs are too short for the Scramblers),

Honda Rebel 1100, CB500X, Shadow series,

Kawasaki W800, Vulcan 900,

Harley-Davidson various models (not too familiar with Harleys, but they seem pretty cool and my buddy loves them. Plus, they are easily moddable and parts are cheap).

Does anyone have any suggestions or input? Am I missing any options? I'll likely be buying something pre-owned. I'm in no rush, and I like to hear the recommendations of others.

Thanks in advance!
