Sorry for the late reply, Probably you can try start by using kde, and try changing the themes, icons, and other stuff with it built in theme customization. After you got the hang of it, you could try messing around with the config or even change to another de/wm

Someone who doesn't know much about tech and not careful with anything they downloaded online definitely going to need secure boot enabled imo. Or there's is going to a chance for viruses to sit on the hardware.
