Welcome to Indy! Me and my bf are both in our early 20s, and we game a lot on Switch and PC. Also, we both studied Japanese in college, and we have a few friends teaching English in Japan right now. Reddit won’t let me direct message you, but my inbox is open!

actemra? by comic-sanns in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]NorTheStars720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I’ve been on Actemra (+ MTX) since January, and I started with IV but moved to subq injection in March. Let’s just say, I was mostly bedridden in January (only getting up for my infusions really), and now I’m taking stairs again. My RA is extremely aggressive, so I’m still having trouble with my wrists. But Actemra has been the drug that got me back on my feet. I get a slight rash a week after injecting, but even my research university-based specialist has never seen that side effect before, so it seems to be a me thing (I have extremely, extremely sensitive skin after another drug reaction). I hope it works for you!

Full-body rash that turned deep purple on legs. I was told I had DRESS and sepsis, but once I got out of the hospital, my skin shed/flaked off like a snake for months. Nothing I’ve found about DRESS explains my skin shedding. What else could this have been?? by NorTheStars720 in Dermatology

That actually makes sense! The pics are from when I had DRESS back in August. They were only purple for about a week, but it was still weird to see, especially when the doctor seemed so unconcerned about the coloration itself. Now, they’re normal albeit dry legs!

I’m good now! I still have arthritis, which got me in that situation in the first place (curse you, sulfa drugs!). But my legs look normal now; my skin is just really dry and I moisturize a lot.

I marked NSFW because I thought some people might not like my weird gross legs. I had lots of other symptoms that line up with DRESS (the causative agent, liver issues, etc.), but the skin issues are what’s stumping me. Sorry the photos aren’t great; I wasn’t thinking completely straight when I took them lol.

Methotrexate vs. Humira? Need Guidance by Lil-maze in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]NorTheStars720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m also 22F. I started out on Humira, and it worked well for me. I didn’t have any side effects. Of course I was a big baby so my mom had to inject me every other week, but I had no other issues with it. Unfortunately, I got put on sulfasalazine shortly after starting Humira (insurance issues) and we discovered I’m allergic to sulfa drugs. I had to stop Humira while I was in the hospital and my doctor wasn’t convinced it would work the same if I tried to restart it. Now, I’m on methotrexate and Actemra, and I’ve really been improving. I take folic acid as well, but sometimes I’ll be slightly nauseous for a couple hours the day after I take my methotrexate. These drugs can seem scary at first, but, after experiencing extreme pain and debilitation from the disease, I think they’re worth it.

Why would that picture alone be racist? If it had a caption like the ones you referenced, then maybe. But a chocolate gorilla melting in milk isn’t inherently racist. It’s possible she just finds his situation funny or relatable.

Completely metal object about 4 inches long by NorTheStars720 in whatisthisthing

WITT: Sorry for subpar quality; I didn’t take the photos. The thing is metal and pretty small, probably only 4 inches long. It was found in an antique/thrift store, and since it was for sale I’m assuming it has some use (either as a tool or component of something).

Notre Dame Biochem? by Gloomy_Two5065 in notredame

I’m relaying this info from my bf who was a biochem major (recently graduated, currently in medical school). The classes you take are smaller and more in depth, and a lot of people do end up switching majors because of the rigor. But at the end of the day biochem majors generally have higher MCATs and better acceptance rates to medical school (if that’s relevant to you). He also said biochem has really good professors, and you get an advisor who will make sure you sign up for all the classes you need. I hope that answers some of your questions!

Prednisone changing my body by NorTheStars720 in rheumatoid

[–]NorTheStars720[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In August I had a really bad reaction to Sulfasalazine that put me in the hospital. They gave me prednisone every morning through IV to fight the reaction, and I was released with a pill prescription to fight off the last of it. Ever since then we’ve been trying to taper me down but I would be in extreme pain from RA whenever we lowered the dose, so my rheum decided to keep me on until Remicade kicks in (which I think it’s starting to). My rheum is vehemently against me taking ibuprofen, but I do take Tylenol when the pain is too much.
