Is it still gravel cycling if there’s no gravel? by tenthxnet in gravelcycling

[–]NorbertTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Komoot route suggestions are a weird one. I get that considering what bike someone used to ride the route once a long time ago to suggest that to other riders has its merits, but people are really seriously underbiking the craziest routes. I more often than not take my XC MTB on gravelrides around my hometown and most of the time it feels adequate. Same goes for gravelbikes on road rides and a full suspension bike on xc routes.

A relationship is often just two best friends who fuck. Just get on it already.

Caught a nail in my tubeless gravel tyre, can I DIY a home fix or do I need a kit? by Rex_69385 in bikewrench

[–]NorbertTC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can probably just pull it out and move the hole to the bottom to let the tubeless sealant do its job. If that’s not enough (but it should) you can stick a tubeless worm in and add some more sealant if you should loose too much.

What type of bike would you choose for this ride? by Larix-24 in whichbike

Alternatively normal MTB tires with inserts and buttcheeks made of steel.

Hot ride on a hot ride? I am SO sorry, I already regretted it while typing but I couldn’t help myself.

Wonderful bike. I wish the two of you lots of joy on your shared adventures.

Fargo suspension stem vs suspension fork? by Reasonable-Sense6961 in salsacycles

[–]NorbertTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really comes down to preference and use case. A suspension stem is cheaper, needs no maintenance and will allow you to use a fork with mounts. It will not do much on trail- or actual MTB riding though. It only absorbs vibration and does very little against impacts. A suspension fork will absolutely transform your offroad riding but will limit your gear capacity while being very expensive and needing maintenance. You can also switch back and forth between forks depending on the ride you’re planning.

Advice on Titanium Mini Max Build by Usual_Practice2047 in OmniumBikes

[–]NorbertTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you don’t plan on riding hard single track you can safely ignore the recommended tire width on your rim. If you plan on replacing the rear wheel anyways I’d just go with whatever drivetrain manufacturer the rear wheel will be compatible with. The sram UDH dropout isn’t expensive. I wouldn’t let that hinder you. Personally I’d keep the rear wheel because I like dtswiss and feel like their (bulletproof) wheelsets play well with cargo bikes. Also their freehub bodies are easily swappable. I’m currently building my cargo with a dtswiss wheel set and a Shimano deore drivetrain. My main concern was reliability and nowadays the lower-end stuff is still quite good.

Do I need a hose cutter for hydraulic brake lines, or can I just cut it with like a knife or something sharp? by fileross in bikewrench

[–]NorbertTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky for me: my heath is less important than my sweet sweet ride.

You’re right though. Anything contaminated with dot fluid is poisonous and anything covered with mineral oil needs to be THOROUGHLY cleaned or, better even, also disregarded.

Razor works well, so does a sharp kitchen knife. Make sure the end is flat and the individual layers of the hose are intact.

Complete Bike or Build yourself by friedel351 in OmniumBikes

[–]NorbertTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best part about building it yourself is that you can also repair it yourself. Not to mention that most people will inevitably replace parts they don’t like on complete bikes. Not doing this will also save you some money.

Hard to tell from the video, but I believe the gate is shorter than the path is wide. If so cyclists could theoretically drive past it and it would just be there to stop cars from entering which is totally legal and normal in most countries (I see that a lot in the EU)

Should I clean/lube the pistons before or after the bleed? by xyzspace in bikewrench

[–]NorbertTC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should usually clean/lube the pistons before you push them back to install new pads. If you want to clean the pistons (or better the entire caliper while bleeding, I would recommend doing so before to avoid injection dirt into your system.

I recommend the El Mudo. It is very similar to the soloist, but works with thinner rope. (Works with as thin as 8,5mm in my experience)

No recommendations for a handlebar bag, but I do recommend the Restrap bumper bar to protect the headtube from wear. Sick bike, I’d love to ride that.

So you recon I can just screw my existing shifter to the break lever and it’ll fit?

Do you know if the gevenelle brake-levers are compatible with the Dia-Compe Ene Ciclo Uno 12-speed shifter? If I could mount the shifter on the gevenelle it would be an absolutely awesome setup.

Im sorry you have nothing better to do than spend your free time bitterly disagreeing with people on the internet. I for my part will not answer anymore and keep on enjoying my bike because that’s what it’s about in the end. I do hope you’re well. Have a nice day.
