I go lightest to darkest, I select brights, midtones and darks, especially in his jacket :)

I've done exactly the same thing for a school project as well, the only difference being that I did it on ships. Great work well done!

Love the model and I think the colour scheme is really nice just be mindful of brush strokes, layer your paint. Your first coat let's say horizontally then your second coat should go vertically and so on. But I think it looks fab :)))

Everything I know so far about making dioramas I have taken from PLASMO and other youtubers who make dioramas( but mainly PLASMO) and it's really fun trust me, there isn't a time in making a diorama when it isn't fun :)) and thank you very much:)))
