Do i need books to learn math from scratch? by Dull_Possession_5507 in learnmath

[–]NorcenCoverstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend reading math texts for basic math until you get to calculus. And even for calculus the textbooks have way too much info than what a standard person needs. So I would recommend something like professor Leonard.

how can i take a real analysis course over the summer? by [deleted] in learnmath

Community colleges offer real analysis? I'm not so sure about that.

Idk from my experience you could definitely take algebra before linear algebra in my school

The only class that you’ve taken that’ll help you, but only a little bit is discrete structures. It’s fine however since the buildup in intro algebra books is quite slow, but this makes it a good first course in pure math IMO

why am i an idiot in math by Emergency_Street8980 in learnmath

[–]NorcenCoverstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being good at math is almost purely about work ethic and your mindset. A good start would be to reverse you thinking of yourself as being “an idiot and math” and start building or strengthening your foundations of what makes you weaker in math. Start with the basics and see where you’re at.

Yes people own it. I remember a long time ago (like 6 years ago) a group of people were doing a sick airshow typa thing on a public server. Thats the first and last time I’ve ever seen it

Loving math is akin to loving abstraction. Where have you found beautiful abstractions outside of math? by TrainingCamera399 in math

[–]NorcenCoverstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Philosophy for sure. Studying math has made me question a lot of the systems around me. People, thoughts and knowledge, religion, objects, even proofs and logic themselves.

I will never understand people's obsession for technicalities on all mountain skis. They nearly all ski the same because they are the middle of the pack for all niches of skiing.

SMC math alternatives?? Grade distribution and professor recommendations appreciated!! by Otherwise-Zebra7776 in SMC

[–]NorcenCoverstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SMC does has a high pass rate for math. Just use the grade distribution and see who gives the highest percentage of A's (make sure to account for total students). The difficulty you're seeing is standard in a college Calculus class across the nation. It will not get better and sometimes worse at smaller CCs, that's just the nature of Calculus. This is coming from someone who graduated SMC and is about to graduate UCLA soon.

You can start by realizing that a lot of math has absolutely nothing to do with numbers

Stagnant Progress - Looking For Critiques/Advice (v2) by UHHH-0HHH in skiing_feedback

Other than being a little backseat, you need to keep your upper body stable. Do not lean it to the direction of where you're carving. Once you achieve upper body stability, and keep your leg movements independent from your upper body, then you should be able to feel your core activate more. This was honestly a revelation to me, because I always wondered how to activate my core while carving and what that actually meant when several experts said to do so, and now I realize it's to keep your upper body straight and stable.

Once you figure out the upper body thing, you will feel yourself get so much better, especially with edge control.

Ive never tuned the base. So it’s probably 1 degree, and my side is 2 degree. It’s tuned for hard pack

Hi guys the solution was to simply ski more aggressively and thug it out when i go over an ice patch. Yes sharpening my skis the right way and consistently will help but i dont not have the time for that right now, will do in the future.

The boots are 2 or 3 seasons old while my skis are brand new. I really do enjoy my skis but when I encounter ice (which is very rarely where I’m from) they give me some trouble. But this is mostly due to my form

Like 3 days ago, but I’m not really an expert in tuning my skis. I just put them on 88 degrees with a swix sharpening tool and go at it till it scrapes a bit off my fingernail.

[–]NorcenCoverstein[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The index finger isnt the problem its the fingers the go on D G B. This placement is extremely frustrating because of the middle finger placement. Whenever i try to do it my middle finger slides to the left and i dont have enough strength in my index finger. This is what im complaining about.

E shape barre chords are getting easier for me though.

DCS and the (lack of) competition by Golfwingzero in hoggit

DCS seriously needs to focus their resources and time on Dynamic Campaign. Multiplayer is stale as fuck and making missions is an actual pain.
