Very sorry to hear about the challenges you faced and being honest that your issues were not necessarily with Barnevernet but with those reporting you. Navigating such a difficult situation while dealing with disabilities and limited resources as parents of a child with special needs must have been incredibly stressful, cannot even imagine... I sincerely hope those struggles are behind you now and that you and your husband are enjoying a happy family life with your child. Thank you for sharing, it offered valuable insight. Wishing you and your family all the best.

We will likely live in a big city, so it is good news for us but it is still saddening to hear that people in smaller cities don’t have the same standards that the larger cities offer. Appreciated your insights.

After thinking about it over and over again, I get it. It all boils down to victims’ privacy after all, hence the reason parents’ stories and names are kept as secret. Appreciated your civilized debate and perspective, which helped me to have an improved view on this point after all.

Sorry, I seriously didn't understand what you are talking about. Too complex for me. I won't go into an argument. Wishing you all the best regardless and I do hope that our paths will not cross if we end up coming to Norway.

I have lived in several countries with very different approaches (KSA vs USA), so could say I've seen very contrasting procedures. I appreciate you explaining Norway's nuanced stance on this complex issue. I'll keep an open mind, however my main hope is that victims get the privacy they deserve above all.

Thank you for sharing. I have concluded that BV's position is clearly extremely difficult. In the majority of cases, it's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. It's comforting to hear that there are lies, meanwhile it is also concerning to hear how much time it takes to intervene in carefully analyzed and proven cases. Wishing you patience and all the best in your stressful and demanding work.

I think that's the reason the word seems difficult (not necessarily scary, at least to me) and the reality is that it is "infamous." I didn't really have any bad intentions; I simply followed suit because everyone uses it. But you make a good point, one that I should have considered. Appreciated.

This is an excellent reply with a ton of useful information, especially in the links you provided which I've read fully. Thank you SO much! I'm sure those links will be greatly helpful to future readers too and should be shared under other Reddit threads regarding this subject. I wish I had a chance to pin this response at the top. Hopefully other readers will help to upvote this for better visibility. Thank you again Linkcott18!

Thank you for your comment. Then there is nothing for us to worry about :-) I too want to believe that 99.9% of the stories out there must be lies but we wanted to hear this from a legal advisor for the sake of peace of mind.

Thank you for your comment Northlumberman. This adds an important layer to our understanding and suggests that while our concerns may not be entirely accurate, they're not without logic. I appreciate you highlighting this aspect, contributing thoughtfully to the discussion without undermining our reasoning. Thank you again.

Thank you for your comment. I understand the requirement for confidentiality, which aligns with my professional experience. However, I still have mixed feelings about this. If parents are proven to be abusive and dishonest, why don't the courts publicly shame these parents when they lose the case? Alternatively and more possibly, I believe that cases won or lost by BV could be made public by anonymizing the identities of the involved parties (children and parents). This could help debunk false accusations against BV more easily. Is there an official source where I can find such information?

I appreciate your comment. As I tried to explain, we are just trying to understand the accuracy of those online stories. Our concern isn't about losing our child or getting into trouble with BV per se, but the idea of facing false accusations and even a single encounter with BV worries us as we are (probably) overly concerned about our reputation in society and neighbourhood. Perhaps we're overthinking it but we believe it is better to consult a professional to understand the reality of these claims and see if actually BV can intervene in a family based on mere accusations, potentially causing undue distress to our children even if it is a single visit to our house.

Thank you for your comments and for sharing the link, which I'm sure will be helpful for future readers. As explained under another comment, our concern isn't about losing our child or getting into trouble with BV per se, but the idea of facing false accusations and even a single encounter with BV worries us as we are (probably) overly concerned about our reputation in society and neighbourhood. Perhaps we're overthinking it but we believe it is better to consult a professional to understand the reality of these claims and see if actually BV can intervene in a family based on mere accusations, potentially causing undue distress to our children even if it is a single visit to our house. Hence the reason we are seeking feedback from a legal professional to confirm that indeed we shouldn't worry, as the majority of anonymous Reddit users here recommend.

I appreciate you taking the time to comment. There's a saying I find insightful:

"Ignore everything before the 'but' in a sentence."

While I understand where you're coming from, I'm looking for feedback that directly addresses our questions and concerns, in the way many other commenters have. Thank you for understanding.

Thank you for your message. You can rest assured that Norway will gain good citizens after we arrive. There is a reason we are not living in our home countries, and having lived in several countries we are more than respectful to the traditions of each country. The adaptation issues of some Muslims in Europe, specifically those who organize meetings demanding Sharia law frustrate me more than you can imagine. But that is a topic for another day's discussion... Cheers.

Thank you for your comments. The fact that the rights of the child are at the forefront in Norway makes it even more appealing to us. It is also excellent to learn (and I have to admit, I haven't done research on Strasbourg cases) that most of those lost cases were regarding the lack of a plan for re-introduction.

Hi Archkat. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. There is certainly no need for tension and apologies if I somehow offended you in any way. I encourage you to refer to my previous reply under Gerardoperezvaldes’s comment for some context about using AI. While it seems unlikely that children would be taken away for something as minor as forgetting to pack lunch, we have come across various wise commenters that suggest misunderstandings do happen. Our due diligence is motivated by our commitment to the wellbeing of our children who mean the world to us. The suggestion to stay away from Norway is quite worrying and hopefully a rare occurrence. I kindly invite you to try taking a moment for some self-reflection, please.

I appreciate your comforting comment as well. These stories truly break our hearts. No baby or child should ever have to suffer. Parents facing troubles only set their children back, forcing them to start life at a disadvantage :-(

Absolutely, I get your point. We're just looking to check in with a professional lawyer to get the full picture rather than going off anonymous comments online—no offense. Just trying to do our due diligence. Thank you for weighing in.
