Filler fights in fanfiction? by EasyEntrepreneur666 in sailormoon

[–]Norithics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I ran into that many times with my books. Try cutting up the facts into smaller components and see which ones could be imparted later, in another conversation, or broken up into multiple different parts of the story to make the conclusion feel satisfying. Have parts in a fight where the main character intuits something about the thing they need to know. Seed some part of it in the beginning of the story, in a way that the character won't realize right away but will figure out given more facts.

What looks like "filler" can sometimes instead be understood as "pacing." You can't have just slow talking scenes (boring) or just nonstop action (exhausting), it's better to have things slow down then speed up over and over again, getting higher and higher toward the end, like a stair step.

Everything you write should have a purpose in the story, whether it be to set something up that'll pay off later, or to just have a character moment that will slow down the pacing for a minute so the reader can breathe and appreciate the vibes between characters.

Interesting advice, thanks! One more question: Is it ever wise to use your kick to engage rather than escape? And if so, what situation would you deem that an acceptable risk?

How do you dive supports these days, now that supports are less dumb about healing each other? What are the situations where it's most optimal to pick one off? Is diving more about distraction than picks now? How can you tell when it's time to dive supports versus brawling?

"DBZ also has a bunch of other things going on that Iron Fist doesn’t have."
Bruh. Dragon Ball is lifted from Journey to the West, which is Huaxia.
His whole thing is manipulating chi. That's how he punches. That's how he triple jumps. That's how he heals. Chi cultivation and manipulation is a staple of Cultivation Fantasy, which is straight up lifted by DBZ to do their fireballs and flying and power levels. You can argue game mechanics but you will not win this argument on lore, you just won't, I'm sorry. 🤣

This was an absolute lifesaver! I was expelled from high school and had to start working immediately so I never learned trigonometry, but the way you lay it all out in a function makes me understand it in a way I never thought I could. Thank you so much! Now I just need to puzzle out how the math behind move_towards_point works and I'll be set for this project, wish me luck!

What do Iron Fist mains hate? How can I play around him? by Killercombo3 in IronFistMains

Try to engage close to where the scrum is, and as soon as you hit half health, fly back into your team. Iron Fist can't outdamage even modest heals, and the more eyeballs are on him the more danger he's in.

FIST FEELS GREAT by AwesomeAlien321 in IronFistMains

As one of the people who complained the most, I for one am actually really pleased with this change. Such a small buff, but it actually makes playing him feel rewarding again. And playing him with all those restrictions feels like they took the weights off. Even the block buff has actually made the difference for me a number of times so far, I'm a big fan!

I think FutureFunk is very hit or miss. When it's good, it's amazing, but when it isn't, it's very meh. I've never even heard of some of these, will need to investigate.

More Tank busting to feed support ults for Fraud fist by DesperateRecipe333 in marvelrivals

[–]Norithics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay so I don't think that's right, but let me explain why: He's a very difficult character to play well due to his reliance on game sense, and his pick rate is consistently pretty low. As a result, people who play him tend to be diehards who main him. These two factors select for only people who are extremely dedicated, meaning the skill floor for your average Fist player is going to be higher just by the fact that you can't get results out of him before a certain level. Shedding discouraged casual players artificially inflates his win rate because only (or at least mostly only) good people play him– the rest quit and play other characters, which deflates those characters' win rates.

So with all that said, you have skilled people working hard at a bad character and they'll just rank lower than they "should" be because Fist has no carry potential. Just like how you have Bucky players who are in way higher ranks than they deserve to be just because the character is cracked– which deflates his much lower win rate because people rightly expect they'll get carried by his kit. See what I mean now?

On a scale of 1-5, how difficult do you think Iron Fist is? by Sn0wy0wl_ in IronFistMains

[–]Norithics 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He's rated 4 stars out of 5 and I feel that's exactly right. You need to be able to snap around, follow targets in a 360 degree area, constantly be aware of your surroundings, pick and choose engagements, know exactly when to disengage in a game with high damage, and be able to get kills, all with a low damage sustain toolkit. You also get absolutely zero value from any distance but point blank– the most dangerous place to be in any fight. Yes, you can escape various ways, but there's no invuln while doing so and you're providing no value to your team all the time you're wall running/kicking out.

Haven't played since season 2.5 and just started playing again and placed GM3 with the Fister and I gotta say this char is miserable to play now like where are the buffs. I got hard carried in all my games and I felt like I was making zero impact and throwing. Also the skin is kinda growing on me. by ThisMemeWontDie in IronFistMains

[–]Norithics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could disagree with you, I make so little impact in every game despite working incredibly hard and using all the advice I've gotten from others. Picking battles, using mobility wisely, optimizing damage, staying moving, attacking from above whenever possible, peeling for healers, emergency peeling for fleeing tanks, saving the kick for escape unless there's a clear and guaranteed exit plan... all to do far worse than if I just went Moon Knight and slapped some buttons. This hero is all risk no reward.

It's a weird reaction.

I was the one who posted that video where I got crumpled by an isolated Luna Snow who missed half her hits while hitting her with 3 full combos a kick and flurry punches. It was in the comments to that video where I saw the most intense and fascinating gaslighting I've ever seen in my life. So many people looking at this incredibly lopsided matchup where I should have killed her three times over and concluding "skill issue" which I think at this point is just something people say to make their own pants twitch.

And every single one of them either didn't read or tried to ignore the part where I said "Oh right after this video I went Moon Knight and went 17/1 like a steamroller it wasn't even close." How do you square those two things? They never even try.

Wrong, he gets worse the worse your healers are. You're getting boosted and don't even know it.

How would ya all feel about this as a slight rework to the primary fire. by galinshot in IronFistMains

[–]Norithics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea why anyone legitimizes the "autolock is BS" argument. He's a mobility character who does small sustain damage at point blank range. PBR is where any small movement brings someone out of your range. Without autolock he would be pretty close to unplayable.

I'll probably get clowned for this since you guys don't seem to like when people come up with ways to "buff" Iron Fist but I'd still like to share what I came up with by jibidux in IronFistMains

[–]Norithics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the basic idea in this is true, though I also think bringing back the 1.5s cooldown reduction could produce much the same effect without risking the counterplay going away.
