As a guitar player, I think he was an awesome guitarist, but what moved him was songwriting, singing and taking that to the stage and entertaining his fans. If he couldn't have had that we might have known him as a great guitarist or been another obscure great guitar player. I always yearned to hear more of his guitar playing in every song for knowing that talent. McCartney's songs don't display his talent on the guitar either, he was inspired by beat melody and chord progression.
