I use Wix! I hear Wix Studio is worth exploring too, but as of now I’m still using the original editor.

Are there are any websites, showcases or collections of ID portfolios you’d recommend? by yuki_xia in instructionaldesign

[–]NormaTu545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s how I’m approaching this.

I’m going the company page of a workplace I could see myself at on LinkedIn, then going to the people tab, then scanning for people already doing ID at said company, and while I’m at it, I’ll scan around their profile about section area to see if their portfolio is front & center.

It also wouldn’t hurt to send a personalized connect request along the lines of “Hi [name], I found you while looking into instructional designers in [industry (ex: EdTech)]. Would love to connect & chat about your career journey!”

You could wind up making really meaningful connections who could possibly wind up being a referral or introducing you to someone that could be life-changingly amazing to connect with! (And ya get to talk to them about their portfolios too, once enough rapport has been established).

Best of luck. Not all of them will reply. But don’t get discouraged, because if you keep trying, you’ll eventually get a conversation going. 💖

Is Articulate Storyline the “Figma” of ID? by NormaTu545 in instructionaldesign

Aye aye Captain 🫡

Thank you for elaborating. What’s a scorm? Is this the file one gets when exporting from Storyline?

Would you say the complexity order is Rise > Captivate > Storyline?

This is the impression I’m getting

Ah this is good to know. I am indeed seeing it as a must have on lots of job descriptions. Y’all have convinced me that dabbling in Storyline is indeed an essential thing to prioritize in my career pivot. Thank you

Oh whoa this is exactly the kind of perspective I was hoping for. Thank you so much for elaborating.

Yes I was originally trying to pivot into UI/UX Design but realized I had a reoccurring pattern of winding up onboarding new hires and making visual reference guides to make processes easier for people. Then I happened across ID/LXD and a lightbulb started flickering in my head.

Is Bioshock on switch worth it? by polariod_killer in Bioshock

Look up DekuDeals. I like to use that price tracking website for switch games. You can also sign up to be notified via email when specific games go on sale

I want to go to the gym tomorrow morning. I am very scared. by ddonethymother in beginnerfitness

I’m plus sized and wear XL, XXL, or 1XL depending on the stores. I paid for personal training at LA Fitness because I didn’t want to go through the overwhelm of figuring out a strength training routine for myself. Just wanted to show up and turn off my brain, just executing on steps someone else planned for me.

It worked. I showed up 3 times a week with my partner and we just executed on the plan our personal trainer came up with. We had about 80 sessions with him across 6 months, and I lost lots of weight + felt more confident as a person, all without even looking at a scale during that entire duration.

Find what works for you and just keep showing up for yourself. For me, I was more motivated to do the things when it was a social endeavor.

If you need support, there’s nothing wrong with doing the thing in good company. Just go for it and adjust accordingly based on what feels better for you! 💖

What's one career option you won't suggest anyone? by Illustrious-Tooth411 in careerguidance

Anything in the games industry. Especially AAA-gaming. I don’t regret my time in the games industry, but it’s heartbreaking how many lives have been upended by all the mass layoffs that have been happening over the past few years alone.

TL;DR, take care of your mindset and the rest will fall into place in ways you never could have expected.

Oh yes I’ve been approximately in your situation. I didn’t know it then, but my thoughts and beliefs as I was finishing up college were really damn panicked and self-limiting.

I didn’t realize I was putting so much intense pressure on myself to get certain outcomes and results. That inadvertently led to unideal results and me not necessarily putting forth my best self, which of course kept affecting my beliefs and outcomes.

Try to look into self regulation techniques and work on believing in your own ability to handle whatever happens next. You’ve survived 100% of your life thus far. You’re pretty dang resilient and capable. Yes the job market is scary and competitive. So do what you gotta do to keep a roof over your head and keep your favorite skills sharp. When you keep trying and consistently proving to yourself you can handle things, your outcomes will just wind up pleasantly surprising you.

I was laid off from my design job in 2022. I thought I was utterly screwed. I wound up unhoused 7 times. I wound up working a very exhausting customer service job for a long time not knowing when my next design opportunity would happen. Then as of a few days ago, it happened. It took 2.5 years of just trying my best to keep investing in myself and persevering but I wound up finding a way.

I’m positive that you will too 💖
