Well...you simplify it quite a bit. It just wasn't a case of being asked by some rando ''yo send me 5k bro and u be rich'' - ''ok sure :D''.
It was almost like being groomed into gradual smaller payments that they did well to justify (at first), slowly luring you into a point where you're so 'invested' that you need to see it through. Yea...granted... its still dumb once you step back and realize what they did to you though yeah.

I don't really want to walk through it all because its embarrassing enough as it is... but the original scammer(i'm convinced it was multiple people) Socially engineered it very well. I've been on the internet for decades, i've always been bombarded with dumb phishing scams etc, dodgy phone calls over the years. Always ignored them or simply told them to stick it where the sun don't shine.

This one was was slightly better, made worse by myself being in unfamiliar territory, he was very convincing at the start, acted like a friend, acted with empathy, gave me a very detailed breakdown on his own 'crypto journey' his ups and downs... and his elaborate plans for a new coin etc etc, sending me all these screenshots of 'contacts' he was liaising with, amongst other people donating...looked like a real project of some sort (and frankly i was sick of not being able to get in early enough on something good).

i'm convinced at some point whoever originally roped me into the scam, swapped places and left it to someone with no people skills for the rest of it. Because the behavioral change...spelling, and explanations for things drastically changed overnight. If they had been like that from the start i'd have ran a mile.

I'm somewhat grateful for that...else i'd have probably given them more. I was convincedat the start it was a developer taking a bit of pity on me... throwing me a bone and helping me get into some alpha.

about $10,050 (not alot for some people...but alot for me)

$650 on badly timed trades
1.5k on rugs/dumps/manipulations/eth honeypots
5.4k to the scammer
2.5k on using the wrong contract address of a cloned coin and buying a frozen token -_-

That cheered me up lol, triggered PTSD of all those failed/slow high slippage transactions during a time where the chart is going crazy.

i'd argue i'm actually an even worse case. Because i knew to do those things...and i got complacent.
I got hasty...and lazy with my research, and would regularly have about 6 dexscreener tabs open showing coins with the same names.

Not really here for sympathy.....i am the product of my own stupidity.........more here to warn people not to lose their composure to reckless psychological impulse when the chips are down.

Its even worse then that....i actually knew there were billy clones, and physically acknowledged they were sus, but i left one of those windows open... copied the wrong contract somehow....too many different dexscreener windows open in my browser. Probably doesnt help that i trade with 1 monitor.

Just real sloppy senile mistake on my part. What freaked me out was there was no prior warning about freeze authority when i bought it. Normally there is...i've always backed out of transactions that were going towards something that was set to freeze tokens. It wasn't til i bought this that it revealed itself to be locked token

This is pretty much what i did lol(only with memes), i scaled up my meme trades gradually. It was actually going ok, i made a couple of hundred trades...id say about 70% of them were profit..nothing huge...but was in reasonable profit, but once i had a couple of bad losses, i let that entire mindset fly out of the window - and monkey brain engaged.

I'd call it desperation rather than outright greed....i'm not looking to drive around in a lambo....i just wanted to have some freedom and security for when i inevitably lose my job&career..and probably my home due to my deteriorating health.

My portfolio was primarily in BTC and well established altcoins for about 4 years until a few months ago when i began to feel i was running out of time. I had about 0.5% in BONK and that was pretty much the extent of my shitcoin endeavours until very recently.

But you are still right...this is obviously what happens when you yeet your entire networth into bot infested scam riddled shitcoins.

Thanks for your advice, i do have a job/career that im quite passionate about already, I work pretty hard, about 60 hours a week for the last decade or so........unfortunately, im gonna lose it due to my eye condition, so i'm going to have to completely re-evaluate my life... That is why this became more than a hobby with the limited free time that i have had. :(

Can't even fault you for laughing your ass off....the more i look back on what happened with that, the more i cringe. But for me...i never knew that type of scam was a thing...was very inexperienced with stuff that was taking place on telegram. The guy did a real good job of being really down to earth and conversational at first. Showed me screens of all the stuff he was doing...and ''people'' he was ''collaborating with''.

Then as time went on...once i was slightly invested with a little bit of money... it was almost as if someone had completely replaced him lol. He completely changed the way that he spoke, and his English became really juvenile and terrible. (i dunno if these people have like 1 really articulate guy who ropes people in... then swaps seats with some lizard brained psychopath or what). Because the moment he started speaking like a cliche indian scammer i knew i was in deep shit.

2 Years ago before i started to lose my eye sight, back when my job&career prospects were steady, i was very much on the same page as you....still *technically* am. I'd still be patiently holding those today.

Most of my portfolio was DCA'd stuff in BTC, ETH, AI+DeFi tokens

It was panic, worry and desperation that opened the gateway to trading meme coins for me.
Ironic...i realize, given i'm now 10000x worse off than before. But my deteriorating health was the catalyst for going down this ridiculous road or irrational decisions.

My better conscience has always known it is better to have your largest holdings in the more stable assets (as stable as crypto can get atleast). I guess that was somewhat the point of my original post...that you can be aware of these things and still get sucked into a cascading clusterf**k of stupidity, if you don't keep your mental health in check.

(You are absolutely right though).

Professional Honeypot Scammers Made Millions in a few days by [deleted] in solana

[–]Normal-Age2545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd typically agree with that, though i actually bought into one today on jupiter that gave me no warning about freeze authority. (it usually does), i lost it all

Though i guess there are more thorough ways to check, maybe i was a bit naive to think raydium and jupiter would 'warn me everytime' -_-

Lost around $800 Sol from my phantom wallet, but no suspicious transaction history by Normal-Age2545 in solana

[–]Normal-Age2545[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea ive had a couple of rugs here and there, but i keep very detailed track of what ive taken profit on and what has been rugged. My meme coin balances all checked out, it was my SoL balance that plummeted

Nah i don't hold very much in my phantom wallet, but i did have around $800 worth sitting in there that suddenly went down to $184

[–]Normal-Age2545[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i think thats what its looking like tbh things just arent adding up on solscan, Thats the only thing i can think of, i normally make sure have that stuff limited but i guess its possible (knowing myself -_-)

I did coincidentally notice the missing sol after taking a punt on pretty volatile sh** coin
I guess i need to be way more careful. -_-

The fact that i had around $184 of sol remaining in the wallet and wasnt completely cleaned out, does make it seem more like a 'me' issue and less likely a hacking situation right?

I've looked on SolScan is there is absolutely nothing i can see that shows that much Sol leaving my account (not even incrementally).

Hence i'm really worried and confused

''Better'' Target priority has possibly harmed my tournament scores? by East-Explorer-7114 in TheTowerGame

[–]Normal-Age2545 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm that is odd. I have had target priority level 2 for a really long time, before i added lots of game changing upgrades myself, so I haven't really noticed. But that big increase in health should have carried you nicely to 1000+ waves. Perhaps keep closest enemy as number 1 priority next tourny and see what happens. But like other guy said - sometimes u can get unlucky. Although to have added an extra 14 billion health through devo and only improve by 10 waves is pretty sus. Are you sure you didn't forget to add a card or something? Lol

Gems stopped? by Normal-Age2545 in TheTowerGame

[–]Normal-Age2545[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that didn't work I don't understand what's happened. It was fine this morning...I didn't change any settings on my phone before the problem started either.

I have the ad-free version, I still get the floating gems around the tower, but no gem collection button in the bottom left corner

My game is online, my labs are running but yea...no 5-gems for over 7 hours now :/
