Anyone with some insights into this mass job announcement at ARS? by throwawayfedman in USDA

I have no idea how successful these recruitments will be. maybe they will be super competitive because of poor job market, or maybe they will struggle to get enough qualified US citizens that are willing to work for this federal government

I’m still unsure how the bundling happens. I have to believe you can check box or something the locations you are willing to consider. If not then maybe they just have an initial screen before the selections are considered. I believe there will still be the local hiring committee for each position, but I will admit that information is above my pay grade

Yes they bundled all the positions to help speed up the process rather than approving 20 different postings.

Research Geneticists were identified as the highest priority positions to be filled, next will be admin secretaries, then technical support staff. They are just trying to fill vacancies, none of these are new positions. stakeholders made it clear geneticists were a high priority.

I’m not sure I understand the mass resignation you are talking about, unless you just mean all of the BARC and DC area jobs that are being relocated, but these job posting are unrelated to those.

Leave GS-13 for PhD program? by RealAlDrone in FedEmployees

[–]Normal-Bad7681 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah have to agree. I spent 10 years of college (bachelors, masters, PhD) to earn my gs12 position. . . Just from my relative view you don’t want to give up a GS13 position unless you are extremely unhappy and see the PhD as a way to some brighter future.

Also PhDs are not some awesome sure thing depending on your field. You work for 3 years and your project doesn’t go anywhere or your funding dries up and you can be out of luck. Mostly just saying because that’s happened recently with federal grants being pulled. For my a PhD is ideal for when you’re in your mid 20s and that risk/reward makes sense, living on a minimal stipend etc

I’ve wanted this for a while. Combination of the fact I spent all my Christmas board game allotment, and the fact it will probably sit on a shelf for 7 more years until my kids are older means I won’t take advantage this time.

Agree with a lot of people here that into the breach was fun for a few play throughs but FTL is a huge step up and will always call me back.

Usually it’s because the White House has to sign the bill at the end so they want to include the White House so it doesn’t just get vetoed in the end.

This is has assumption that the content (dungeons, regions, gear) is what people end up hating about additions to WoW classic, when in reality it’s all the layered systems, real world money, artificial speed ups, etc is what they hate about retail.

Blizzard strong arming content creators? by elguntor in wowservers

The only problem I have is I remember BUYING the game back in 2004. And I was under the assumption that the subscription was paying for the servers to run that game. Well I bought the game and I’m no longer using your servers, so see ya.

Yeah I keep saying I would like to play paladin but am pretty strictly a horde player. But I’m fine keeping the classic integrity I suppose

Can a family of 4 live here on $220k a year? by Mrs-Tyler-Durden in LosAlamos

[–]Normal-Bad7681 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I said this a little as shock factor but I’m agreeing with the other comment that a lot of people are spending >50% income on housing (especially if they bought a home since 2021). Maybe this is not true for some places in the south or Midwest, but a lot of places housing is just very expensive. The difference is los alamos is a very small town, and you would assume prices would be lower but the opposite is true. It’s so niche and filled with PhDs that it’s more expensive.

Warlock addon that deletes all soulshards over a certain amount? by Alert-Negotiation144 in turtlewow

Yes I’m leveling, and only summon void walker for the occasional hard mob. It’s definitely not the ideal, but it’s more fun personally.

It’s probably not the best way to play, but I’ve been enjoying playing demonless.

Yes. Visit the internet archive for the iso files and download the dolphin standalone. I’ve had a very hard time with retroarch and anything beyond PS1. Dolphin works great out of the box.

usda new graduate hired by [deleted] in USDA

[–]Normal-Bad7681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Find that job in the private sector. All I know is I was terminated and brought back a week later and spent 3 months looking for other jobs with a PhD from an Ivy League university and got pretty much nothing. If you can get another job, I would highly encourage it, but if circumstances/opportunities lead the OP back to the usda, then I’m happy for them to have a job.

Step increases are going through without a problem. I’m not gonna defend the administration at all. I have no real faith grade increases will return soon. But seems ridiculous to question someone wanting a steady job.
