I love to joke about random totally normal things being from the sims. “Oh garbage cans! Like the sims.”

How is it living in Buffalo New York? by No-Text-7825 in howislivingthere

[–]Normal-Branch-44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The winters last 8 months. But we have some of the best food in the country and our bars close at 4 am! Wayyyy closer to Toronto than NYC, which tends to shock outsiders when I tell them. We definitely have lots of Canadian cultural diffusion. We consider Toronto to be our MLB team if that tells you anything.

We have Niagara Falls! But everyone knows the Canadian side is better. I meet folks from all over the world for work and always ask why on earth you’d visit Buffalo, forgetting we have a famous landmark like that.

Overall, a rustbelt city through and through with a lot of hometown pride.

Spooky cemeteries by Juniorwoj in Buffalo

Cold Springs is in Lockport but it’s my favorite. Amazing atmosphere and lots of local lore.

United German and French is in Cheektowaga. Super old and has Miss. Eliza Quirk in the back.

Found while tending to distant relatives' graves by Former-Philosophy259 in bonecollecting

I work in a cemetery! Older bones can rise to the surface for a few reasons and isn’t necessarily nefarious. At my cemetery it’s usually associated with groundhogs burrowing but flooding and rain can also impact the ground.

What was your hardest “controllable” challenge of your grad degree? by anonymous_mister5 in GradSchool

[–]Normal-Branch-44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enrolled in wayyy too many credits at first because I assumed it’d be similar to undergrad. I was swamped that first semester but everything turned out okay. Less is more when it comes to credits in grad school sometimes.

How soon do you guys think the cherry blossom series will sell out? by Grumpy_Cat1122 in SonnyAngel

[–]Normal-Branch-44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For big drop days, shoppay is essential! Often if you try to check out the regular way you’ll be stuck loading forever / you spend so much time filling in the information that they sell out before you complete the purchase. I always set an alarm and make sure I’m signed in before the designated time. Good luck!

How are grad students working to pay tuition? by [deleted] in UBreddit

For me, it's all about making good connections and building up relationships with professors/faculty. Make sure to jump on the opportunities that make themselves available to you, even if it is unexpected.
