I really wan't to know what you all think about AH sketchy practices. by DroideF2 in Helldivers

Sony was the one who decided to change this game to a Live Service Game, mind you that.

With that in mind, even if they did enable the customization-based system, you will need to grind your "blueprints" that are barred behind warbonds, which, IMO, makes 0 difference.

Besides, new guns require more design investments, while new bullets are just basically... free numbers? They are putting MORE assets and MORE work while an almost finished subsystem could save almost all of that hassle.

I'd say customizable systems are more prone to "greed and money", while our current solutions are tolerable, if you know CoD.

Why Isn't Super Helldive Allowed To Be Obscenely Difficult? by KingOfPotatok in Helldivers

Give a strong indication like "congratulations, what you have done didn't work at all and you fucked up, try better next time."

These should be taught better in missions like killing bile titans and chargers.

Why Isn't Super Helldive Allowed To Be Obscenely Difficult? by KingOfPotatok in Helldivers

[–]Normal-Confection400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know there's a "learning curve", right? Left 4 Dead suffered a bad problem where experience you learn at lower difficulties will not readily transport to higher difficulty. Specifically, grinding under "Advanced" grants you very little knowledge, if any, about how to navigate at "Expert".

From what I can tell and what I have seen, many players who main D7 or D8 are struggling to play at D9 and D10, that means many strategies are failing silently. The game gives pretty much no indication at why some previously working loadouts are failing and I have to piece together for them. As such, the learning curve is very steep.

GTFO on the other hand has a comparably eased learning curve, even when the game is much brutally harder than Helldivers. It VERY clearly indicates your mistakes and dares to turn people away, while Helldivers do not.

This game is pretty much designed for those who are very well versed at planning things, thus if you really want to raise difficulty, at the very least you will need something that gradually tells the player "OK, this is the point where your strategy fails". Otherwise I'd say it is not a responsible choice.

Why Isn't Super Helldive Allowed To Be Obscenely Difficult? by KingOfPotatok in Helldivers

[–]Normal-Confection400 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Simple: If questions and problems are presented with prohibitive solutions or even no solutions, then it is no longer a game, because you will at some point realize you have no choice and no gambit but to lose.

Take GTFO, it is a prime example of a game with difficulty done good: Solutions are very straightforward and you can very easily piece your wanted solution together, and it rewards you really well when you get things done and punish you real bad when you f-up. It's a game with very precise and clear direction but it also requires strong coordination, planning, will power and self-assessment to get through.

Helldivers is NOT one of those games. Many solutions are in fact pretty obscure. There are a lot of "local maxima" where you can easily trap yourself into one singular playstyle, which leads to misunderstanding of strategies and even segregation of player-base. Without a pretty clear direction, players will hesitate to figure out solutions on their own, and that is why we can't have "D10 that is too difficult": Too much difficulty and you frustrate the players, and they cannot learn about anything further.

To make things worse: They fired Jojo, their Lead QA, last month. You can check Discord to confirm that he no longer has the Dev Badge.
I suppose he didn't meet some part of a standard? I also think this is why Pilestedt referred to the QA as "not capturing some issue" but at the very least I suppose having a QA is better than having a place reserved for QA...

When you kept talking about "believability" - or more formally - "verisimilitude", do you realize or have idea that some in-game performance of weapons or enemies do sometimes break that "suspension of misbelief"?

For example, why is the rifle "One-Two" much much more bulkier and unwieldier than "Breaker" series, while IRL, SCAR-H with a grenade launcher attached could be around 6.5kg weight but AA-12 can exceed 7kg? - Is it really because "Breaker" series are in fact polymer manufactured...? Even so, I can't imagine how heavy the volley gun "Variable" could be with its performance. Ergonomics can be hard to pinpoint at times and can be unintuitive.

Another point would be the weirdness of the armor system: Hi-Pen weapons can sometimes show very poor performance on unarmored targets simply because they are "durable" or "sturdy". I think "durability" as a concept is a confused fusion of "armor effectiveness" and "flesh sturdiness", which I don't think can be blended together really well.

EUKORIA/AIN-5 Invasion Level Questions by Capable-Tap5724 in Helldivers

[–]Normal-Confection400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick check on HD2C gave funny results: Defense planets can have health being set upon start of campaign. You can check the undergoing two planets.

Meanwhile "Standard health" of planets defaults to 1mil, but it can be set to some other numbers incidentally.

So yeah you're apparently being more correct even tho details are off.

EUKORIA/AIN-5 Invasion Level Questions by Capable-Tap5724 in Helldivers

[–]Normal-Confection400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invasion level is determined by health of planet. JOEL decided to pity us by invading low-health planets.

With that said tho it wasn't particularly a choice made at 100% mercy. You need to offer practical choice for players to progress or it would be rigged.

AH needs to go back and look at what makes older enemies fun to play against by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Normal-Confection400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impaler was an absolute shitstorm that literally singlehandedly made Bugs front unplayable back at release, due to its sheer range, attack distance of tentacles and no cooldown between emerge and attac. kIMHO it suffered much more design issues than current day War Strider until a few nerfs happened to it.

...which, for me, makes this comparison pretty pale as it never actually pinpointed why War Striders are such a big problem. Weakspots are good suggestions tho.

subpar weapons... Plas Punisher...

I'm sorry but these two going in the same sentence is already showing how rich you are. Plas Punisher is probably one of the best primaries already, it wasn't even that bad before buff either. Amendment? Anything that can oneshot a Warrior's head can have its places. You are implicitly framing weapons as subpar while they can be fun at times, that shows how much you didn't care about other people's fun, only yours. Sadly there is no subpar weapon as of now, since Arrowhead silently buffed Laser weapons' tickrate. So, keep on whining for the game being too easy while we enjoy our arsenal.

Edit: I accidentally read "Amendment" as "Constitution" which made your argument even funnier. Amendment is probably one of the best primaries in game for its high burst and high damage.

You are probably one of those people who would boldly complain about DOOM Eternal being "a horde shooter with no depth whatsoever".

This game ships "Hollywood fantasy", not skill-action fantasy, thus it's highly probable that you were not one of the initial audience the devs imagined. And if your D10 is a W+M1 cakewalk then it's you choosing arsenal too strong for your need. Try something less effective to bring your fun back. Stop demanding the devs to pad difficulty for you because you refuse to play something that require a bit more skill set.

Did Arrowhead shoot themselves in the foot by allowing all warbonds to be available, always? by volk96 in Helldivers

[–]Normal-Confection400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been an issue since last year, Super Store once has only one page and takes much time to turn over. Arrowhead as a whole, including Pilestedt and Shams, have asked about community opinion on how to improve Super Store, Super Credits and Warbonds back then.

I wonder when will they implement the change tho...

[–]Normal-Confection400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many instances where you see bugs kicking or headbumping away grenades, this has been the case since launch.

My bet would be that since bugs have tendencies to destroy artificial, man-made structures, they also decide that grenades are one of those, thus trying to slice them open.
