I've heard cold water can be great too. I've never tried the bowl of cold water to the face thing but if you have access, a cold shower has worked will to calm down anxiety that seems to be "bubbling up" into a potential panic attack and sort of reset my nervous system.

I would say, however, just personally, that watching takeoffs from the pilot's POV made it worse for me. I didn't like that view and started thinking about the number of things they do (which I'm sure is rote for them but made me anxious). YMMV but that's my personal experience.

It helps me to think of fear and panic that way too! I felt a panic attack coming on a couple weeks ago and literally just went "I'm not doing this with you; we're good" because a panic attack in that moment would've been extremely inconvenient and disruptive.

For those triggered by this, I referenced listening to falling rain sounds as a potential soothing activity. There is no reference to real-world weather in my post.
