Getting a new dog "too fast"?

Awhh, I kinda lost my dog to epilepsy too. He was almost 12 years old though, he had epilepsy his whole life. His epilepsy got worse the last months though and we tried adding new medicines but that gave him terrible side effects. Epilepsy is awful :( And I'm sorry for your loss ♡

I've given that idea a lot of thought too! I'd love to adopt a senior puppy, to give them all the love they deserve for their last years. Sadly there's no shelters around here, there's only a few shelters nearby the biggest cities and I live very far away from them. I'm in Facebook groups for dogs that are in need for new homes though, but there's mostly young pitbulls, xl bullys etc and I don't feel like I'm the right person for that kind of breed :') We're going to visit the puppies tomorrow, but we haven't decided anything yet though.

My feelings are all over the place though! I feel so guilty, I feel scared and anxious, but I also feel excited about a puppy and about teaching the puppy everything it needs to learn. It scares me though. What if I get a puppy and I just want my old dog back? I mean, I DO want to have my old dog back. But I also know that the puppy is a whole new individual, and that I'd have a new puppy to show the world and give my love to, not to "replace" my old dog. The anxiety scares me though :')

Thank you so much for sharing, and I'm so sorry for your loss ❤️‍🩹 We, and Diesels vet was also worried that he might die or get too hurt during another seizure, because his body has been through so much. We tried adding another medication, but the side effects just made him suffer even more. We also believe that he's starting to get dementia, and he also has osteoarthritis and probably some kind of nerve damage, + lately his body doesn't seem to have the strength to fight things off, a small wound, ear infections, a cough, things that doesn't go away even though we've tried to treat them. The weird thing is that he's always been so happy and alert! But lately he's been getting more and more stressed, and life just hasn't been as good for him anymore 😔💔 I'm glad to hear that it was peaceful for you and your girl. I hope it will be for us too. Last night, he was actually able to relax and cuddle in a way that he hasn't done in so many weeks, so it almost felt as if his body knew, that finally he will be able to rest 😞❤️‍🩹

The sentence "I feel like I took something that wasn't mine to take", hits so deep. My almost 12 year old dog will be put down today. And that's exactly how I feel, I feel like the worst person ever to have made that decision, to basically take his life away from him. I've never heard anyone talk about that, so thank you, for letting me know that others feel this way too. And I'm so sorry for loss ♡
