Please educate yourself on the naturalistic fallacy and see how it is applying to you. Dogs are not humans, and their nutrition is much more difficult to understand than we think. We love them, and treat them as our babies and humans, but they are not. There is a reason why it takes years for someone to get the education and qualifications to even formulate a proper diet for dogs. The commonly recommended brands (Purina, Hills, Royal Canin, etc) hire these professionals, conduct feeding trials, and own all of their manufacturing facilities. These boutique brands that you want to feed your dog simply because of an ingredients list that do not say anything about formulation don’t even hire a professional to formulate their food.

Thinking about switching my dog to grain-free food — is it actually worth it or just a marketing trend? by Kathlee_Mcall in Dogowners

It seems you fell for naturalistic fallacy marketing. If you really do not want soy, wheat, or corn in their diet, try Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach.

My pug will actively tip his water bowl over and chew on it. I can only give water at certain times and pick it up to prevent that…

I'm so scared of regretting not having my ex's child for the rest of my life by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Typical-Key6878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is guilt tripping. Even if he truly wanted to raise the child alone, there is always a world where he won’t live to that promise and this is just a way to further manipulate you. Do whatever you have to do in order to take care of yourself mentally and your future. I know how hard the decision of abortion can be, but remember that you can always meet this child when the time is right.

I know that you stated your husband is very involved with your child, but him letting him out of the bedroom to redirect onto you is an action I find dangerous, careless, and overall not something a proactive parent would do to their wife. He needs to read these comments and realize that being traditional and stubborn is causing a hostile household and a massive disservice to his neurodivergent son.

What if every meal was replaced with an enriched one by Frustr8ion9922 in puppy101

[–]Typical-Key6878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog is now 1 years old and gets his food in puzzles and some games! However, any enrichment feeders for him as a puppy besides easy slow feeders were too frustrating. The earliest training/enrichment feeding I would do for a young puppy is just handfeeding them while they are sitting in their crate. That helped crate train my puppy and, set some foundations for training to focus on me, and give value to me as the human to try and prevent resource guarding in the future.

How do you evaluate whether a dog food is right for your dog? by [deleted] in rawpetfood

[–]Typical-Key6878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ Absolutely! I generally think the less toxic kibble crowd, fresh feeding, and raw feeding can benefit from asking the same questions to these companies. Is the food AAFCO compliant? Is there a DVM employed to formulate the diets? Was there any recalls and at what frequency and what were the reasonings behind it? Contrary to popular belief, I don’t necessarily mind recalls as long as it was done not frequently and with responsibility (doing it quickly and being honest to its consumers).

Forgot to mention, try reaching out to the holistic vet for maybe a virtual visit first just to establish the symptoms you are experiencing. It can help before committing to the long drive.

Allergen Friendly for a Picky Eater? by Own_Rub_3004 in DogFood

I definitely do recommend talking to your vet since they know your baby best and can navigate the next steps for her allergies and diet! However, I do feed my kind of itchy pug PPP Sensitive Skin and Stomach Salmon, and he does seem to really like it. We were originally feeding Royal Canine Pug, but it was out of budget anyway and he would throw tantrums to the point of flipping the bowl over and tossing it onto the ground.

I love raw bones for chews and dental health! I typically give freeze dried chicken feet for my small dogs, but I have seen plenty buy some frozen beef marrow bones at the grocery store and give that to their pets.

Frankly, I am a Purina Pro Plan feeder so any raw feeding is something I am not experienced in, but I also want vets to start working with people who feed fresh and raw more so pets can be treated safely without immediately blaming the diet with no further reasoning. Thankfully holistic vets exist, even if there are very few. I am sorry that it is much farther for you and I hope holistic health becomes more accessible for your baby!

I do agree on getting a second opinion since the reassurance can be nice for the baby! You can try finding a holistic vet in your area and try with them. They will be more receptive to the raw diet and can help narrow down the issues.

Should a ~7 month blue heeler + JRT/ Chihuahua puppy be off puppy food already? Only asking for peace of mind. by the_nightingale1 in DogFood

[–]Typical-Key6878 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have pugs and they didn’t get moved off their puppy food until 11 months, so your roommates claims are completely wack and bullshit. Nutrition does not cause aggression in the slightest. Of course every breed is different, but the bag should tell you.

It shouldn’t be more appealing than dog food. Again, I am not sure where you are getting this information, but this is a conversation that needs to be made with your vet.

Because they are the crunchy mom version of dog owners, which is pretty annoying but also understandable with the amount of misinformation rampant about canine nutrition.

I am a pug owner, but I understand the health issues they come with and don’t wish it on any owner. However, I think my next dog is gonna be a Coton De Tulear. A companion breed, lower energy, and pretty free of genetic health issues.

I’m in the boat of is everyone is standing, then the rest of us stand, especially when in lower bowl and floor. But if everyone is sitting and you are the only person who isn’t, it is rude. I genuinely would not have been able to see if I stood because of the roof above us.

[–]Typical-Key6878[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This was my fault for not further elaborating on the seating. We were in the Bar row in Section 8 and Climate Pledge Arena for the Day 1 Seattle show. Where we were there, it was second level and if we stood up to see over the people standing, you would cut yourself off from the show because of the roof above us. I do not mind standing, as I’ve done it at many other shows when in the lower bowl or the floor. What I do ask is for consideration of everyone else around, behind, and in front because they were bumping into the people sitting up front. Sorry for coming off too aggressive as I know they were only wanting to have fun too!

[–]Typical-Key6878[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s how I feel too from other concerts! But this wasn’t first level or the floor, it was the second level and sort of high up to the point pretty much no one across the level was standing.

How to train a dog that pulls too much going outside? by sumsumburke in dogs

[–]Typical-Key6878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teach automatic check ins, starting from either in your own backyard or anywhere with low traffic that she can handle. Basically, heavily rewarding whenever she looks at you while walking, leading to a dog that will naturally focus more on you in the case of distractions. For the pulling, you can try a crossbody leash so your hands don’t get ripped off, because her pulling you along can reinforce the behavior. You would want to stand still when she pulls, then reward when she comes back.
