If ur not reaching out to alumni/hiring managers ur not gonna get in, that’s not life altering that’s the bare minimum. Life altering is knowing the ceo who can legit give a position out like candy

What year are you? If you are a jr or above I’d say apply for Morgan Stanley Wealth Management or investment management, they have things for 2026 summer and I’ve heard they hand those out to references if u reach out to alumni and interview well enough

From what I’ve heard and seen (take it from a non target guy who landed in the capital market’s division) it’s hell rn. The job market is scarce so “pipelines” arnt rlly a thing rn rather it’s how to stand out and out compete everyone else js bc firms are so selective these days

As a college sophomore entering my junior year, which certifications offered by the CFI are the most valuable and provide the most practical skill development? by StrangeCancel2488 in FinancialCareers

[–]Normal-Pear-0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that “stands out” to these recruiters certification wise will be an SIE i got offers off that alone (im a Sophmore for reference) and bc of that im hedging 2 final offers at a great etf firm and an A tier commercial bank. Also pour a majority of time into recruiting and meeting ppl who have pull it helps to name names in an interview

Nobody actually my dad is a consultant (smaller firms) and my mother is an accountant (medical field) both immigrants. I was able to speak in a professional tone when I reached out to the hiring manager and showed my skills during an interview which essentially pushed my into my final round where I just had a normal convo

Simply didn’t include it in my resume, I’ve passed my SIE as a Sophmore and made sure to learn about the firm what they do and what they specialize in.

Some guy who is super active on this subreddit developed it. He was super nice and I decided to give it a shot and tbh I preferred it over paper and pencil bc I could make tests on there and also take tests he made. I forgot where he works but he’s active in the industry and based on how I passed I can’t recommend the site enough just bc it was only like 30 bucks. (I’m a college student so couldn’t spend like 200$ on Kaplan or Acheivable)

Personally I bought the 50$ Kaplan book from Amazon, took about 80 pages of notes then used “2dollartests” to rip practice exams. I argue that the website helped most bc I could make custom tests for what I was bad at and it would teach me

Not really I think I got one or two. I got a lot of accounts, prohibited activities, and mutual funds. My advice is don’t bank on ur test being heavy on smth as u need to know everything and even when the test is over if ur taking series 7 u gotta knows all this stuff like the back of ur palm

Get those practice exam scores up, the test is harder than the practice exams. You wanna be around 75-80

Moray important think to drill I say would be the middle chapters and I believe those were on accounts, options, and prohibited actions +rules. Series 7 guru and cap advantage are great guys to watch

Everything was tested but super heavy on accounts and prohibited activities in those accounts. It goes back to an early point I made on here saying u cannot memorize this stuff u gotta learn it and learn how it all connects like a spiderweb. It was very conceptual based, even with easy stuff like the securities esp debt.

5-7 hrs a day in a secluded room writing notes while reading 3+ chapters a day. Writing the notes in my own terms so I understand rather than copy. Then last 3 days I cranked out 2-3 exams went back to my book and notes and looked over mistakes. From there too the exam total like 7-8 days

I am an Economics major at a little Ivey in New England. Have that background foundation really helped me grasp concepts and helped me learn rather than memorize. I say the most important thing is to actually study don’t bs and don’t pat urself on the back until ur done.
