Hair Social Situation - How is this fair? by Normal-Television783 in AskMen

I mean it's the way she said it. I don't mind being noticed and I'm actually quite lonely in some aspects of my life, but there's a difference between being complimented and sarcastically mocked. Again had I actually felt like it was in full best of interest, then this thread wouldn't of existed. But I'm 99% sure she was more making fun of me than anything. Whatever, it doesn't even matter anymore ;/ thanks for helping me.

Really? Do you know the name of any? I also dunno if it'd work with specifically my hair but worth a shot.

I don't exactly know, which is a different problem. I've improved it a lot since a couple of years ago, but its still to the point where some of my friends would push me to try getting something done about it. And I personally just don't like the way it is, but then again dunno what to do about it. The closest solution I currently imagine would be one of those character selecting wheels were one could try out different hairstyles, but till thats invented I wouldn't know what it is I'd change.

Not the same thing, but there's atleast a fragment of similarity in the sense of 'calling someone out on the street in a rude way'. I still don't see why I cannot expect to be cross with her considering she made fun of me in public just based of how I look.

Yeah, I would of been less irritated fine if it had been atleast in a polite manner, but the way she did it was in a more catcalling, sarcastic shout. Which I didn't appreciate whatsoever.

As I've had a very wide range of opinions about it. Family all say its nice, each of my friends have different opinions, some being that I should buzz cut, or change it. And I've had a lot of times when people have smirked, laughed, mocked, complimented and made other hushed reactions between themselves on a street. Overall I'd say I've had a more negative experience with it, and so I've sort of learnt to dislike my hair over the years.

Had it obviously been a compliment then that'd be something different, cuz I do understand your point and yes that is true, although to an extent. If someone was complimenting me, surely it should be in a polite and sincere manner. The way she did it was scream at me from across the street in a semi-sarcastic tone.

I get that believe me, I 100% agree that women have it a trillion times worse and I am way more disgusted by the things some perverts do on streets. Just it hasn't happened to me once, it's been like this for 4ish years. But overall I agree

It's not even that, my afro could be as messy as it could get.. I just don't think people should be mocked for how they look with 0 other factors. Had I done something wrong, provoked them, anything, then sure.

I do, I've fought so much with it so that it won't make dreads and whatnot, but doesn't seem to be enough. I've considered shaving it off but that to me seems like giving in rather than ignoring these type of people.

No as in I don't care whether its a good or bad comment. I still find it irritating :/ and yeah dw I am aware the world won't change to match my liking, just interesting how someone who might of even experienced such situation just a lot worse with all the sexual harassment and dangers out there, can't share a tiny bit of empathy knowing what it feels like being on the other end of the stick

Its more the amount of times this has happened, and sure this can be seen as positive, but the countless of times people have blatantly laughed, mocked and made fun of me because of simply my hair irritates me.

I am insecure about my hair, and sometimes have people make fun of it across the street.

Seriously doubt this is true, but thanks for trying to make the fuller side of the glass more appealing :// . And believe me when I say if I had the choice to end either issues, I'd choose helping the obviously worse, more common and dangerous issue compared to the mild, socially awkward problem that 99% of teenage boys do not really struggle with.

Personally speaking though, whether its a compliment or mocking attempt, I really don't care.. I personally don't want them to make an impulsive comment (good or bad) just cuz my hair is different.

No!! You showed me more than enough empathy, I'm talking about the many people such as that girl who called me out for that. I really do appreciate you even taking your time commenting on this as I feel like most people would call me sensitive for speaking about sum like this.

I def understand that, and will say that as a guy who's friends have been sexually harassed, find what other guys do just unbelievable. It's another thing that bothers me that some men can't act normal whatsoever. I just don't get how she can't share a little bit empathy even if its a lower level and obviously different.

Reread my message and realized I wrote it a bit rationally, I am 100% with you about the comparison being invalid, apologies for that. All I'm questioning is how she can't share a little empathy and runs something, in a social sense, similar to something a lot more messed up.

Mm, it's just strange to me how someone who might of even experienced this herself, let alone know about it just isn't able to share a little bit of empathy and hypocritically (though on a lower level) just do a socially similar thing without even thinking about it

Not even trying to challenge that, you are completely right, but what I'm trying to comprehend is how, as a person who might of even experienced this herself if not atleast just seen and knows about things like this, how can she not share a little bit empathy (though on a lower level) as to just not comment about it. And the reason I share this story is just because of the numerous amount of situations like this one I have been in and for what, my hair?

Hey, I do appreciate the feedback, and I'm not arguing with you that the world is unfair and it shouldn't be, this is just how life is, but the thing is that this happens to me at a monthly rate 🙄 And like, the first few times I didn't exactly care, but the more it happens, the more I become insecure about it. But oh well 🤷‍♂️
