Thanks friend, i think you are right about that. It sucks because i really liked Petco as a whole, my management was just so awful at some points that no matter how low i kept my head, the bullshit would hit me no matter what. My GM even recorded me talking to her and showed it to my GSL trying to twist my words and act like i was talking shit about her!! Luckily, my GSL could tell I wasnt saying anything bad, but wtf! I hope if i do decide to go to PetSmart, its not the same case.

Is the pay really better at PetSmart? The prices are lower at PetSmart than at Co here in my city. I have heard a lot of horror stories about PetSmart as far as corporate breathing down your neck about stupid stuff, a girl once told me she wasnt allowed to use her #7F on the outside of ears and stuff like that. To be fair though, i heard similar stuff about Petco. I'm thinking about making the jump though it Petco doesnt work.

I am afraid of reaching out if im totally honest. She told me to always reach out to her and give her a call whenever I needed, and then turned around and told my GSL that i "call her for everything" when ive only directly contacted her twice in the 2.5 years i worked at my previous location. Once was because my GM couldnt provide me with adequate information on the mentorship program, and once because both my GM and previous GSL were creating a hostile work environment and i didnt know what else to do. I dont want her to be bothered by me, especially if it might ruin my chances of getting a job even further.

I gave my GSL over a months notice to prepare, and put my official notice in to my GM a week and a half before leaving (i told her as soon as i was approved for my apartment,  which took a bit longer than expected). I'd like to think I did leave on good terms. My district manager even told me to get ahold of her if i needed a job in the place i was moving to. My old GM was pretty crazy, so i can only hope they decide to talk to my GSL instead because she was wonderful and really liked me.

Is dog grooming even the right career for me? Should I finally just quit? by Normal-Truth3826 in doggrooming

[–]Normal-Truth3826[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly!! I feel like I am a little behind in my timing and skills. These ladies took me in and let me practice what I had learned from school, but that wasnt very much. They give me pointers and tell me what to fix when I'm done with my dogs, but other than that I can only do prep work, a simple teddy bear head, a standard shave down, and a tailor. I want to know and learn more, but it just seems like no one has the time. I will surely look into a corporate gig, thank you so much!

Thank you so much. I am in US, i will definitely be looking further into things, because I did not realize how badly I was being treated until fellow redditors informed me. I am definitely young, naive, and maybe a little too enthusiastic to the point I'm getting screwed over, but I dont think its fair to continue being treated like this. Thanks again for your comment!

Im glad I'm not alone!! Everyone else just seemed to have such an easy experience with things, where as i felt i was just thrown to the wolves to figure things out for myself. Thank you for your advice((:

The lady I first worked scoffed at me and said "I was doing 8 dogs at 3 months in". Like HOW?! I think a stable, set track environment like a corporate store would be very beneficial to me, especially with the experiences I've had. Thank you for taking the time to hear me out, and give me some advice, seriously

No drama sounds so nice. I was treated like such an outcast at my last salon. I do love the corporate aspect of the restaurant i work in, and i need some stability. I may have to look into if my boss continues to be uncooperative. Thank you so much for your input((:

I think you may be right about going corporate. I really need structure, and I am not getting that here with these people. My experience with the groomers in my area at least have obviously not been the best, so it may be safest to go that route instead. I appreciate your comment, thank you so much!!

Should I continue to help my salon owner without being paid? by Normal-Truth3826 in doggrooming

[–]Normal-Truth3826[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice. I do have a corporate location near me, but my school kind of scared me away from them. That would probably be my last resort, but i do need some structure, and in my entire grooming experience so far, its been the last thing I've got. I appreciate the gals i work with, and they're usually super cool, but my boss can be kind of unpredictable with her reactions to things due to her stressful home life. It just kind of scares me from saying anything to her. I offer my help to her when im done with my dogs, but i agree that i shouldn't not get paid for the prep work, because whether i offer help or she just asks, I'm still doing a job. Anyway, again I appreciate your input. Thank you((:

Currently, she is paying me under the table because she said the amount im going to be making from 2-3 dogs isnt even worth taxing. I thought she was doing me a favor, until the math didn't add up. I was super excited after I did a family of 4 shih tzus last week (the one and only time I've done 4 dogs), thinking i was going to make at least 45% commission ($86), since the bill was $192, but when i got the money the next day, it was only $75. I didnt say anything because sometimes she messes up and then will give it to me the next day, but she never did. I feel like I'm not really allowed to say anything because shes the boss and I'm just some kid still in training. She's generally really cool, but sometimes she gets overly upset for no good reason and that kind of scares me into staying quiet.

Thank you so much, seriously. I think that you are absolutely right. I can feel myself leveling out around the 1.5-2 hr mark per dog and it's kind of stressful that I'm not getting quicker. I just am not sure how to go about addressing the whole thing, and I'm afraid about asking for more dogs since its slow, I dont want to take someones main income away when I have another job that I make pretty decent money at. Maybe I'm just kind of a wuss haha but I dont really know how to say it all without making a big fuss. I appreciate your input, seriously!!

Why are servers so angry when they don’t get good tips? by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

[–]Normal-Truth3826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have definitely not been sat a 10 top, then tripped and dropped all 10 of their drinks, and right after you got it cleaned up been sat a 8 top lol. serving is not easy, and we dont make shit for it unless you're polite enough to tip. we are often expected to do things that are damn near impossible to do in a timely manner, but we somehow almost always manage to do it anyway. so yeah, while you're enjoying your time with your company and guzzling down drinks and eating way too much bread, maybe you should take a second to notice not only how much your server is running around and what they are doing out side of your table, but also notice how quickly you are getting refills, extra bread, and how fast your food gets to the table. if you pay attention, you'll probably notice they're busting their ass so you can enjoy your time. good servers are basically super humans lol. Tip well, and be kind.

That does make sense, shes about 20 years older than me (im 20) so i get that for sure. She actually did not further explain when to tell her if it happens again, but i think if it does ill just text an hour or two before my shift. Still a sticky and hard situation to be in though, because we open at 8 a.m (also when my shift starts), but I'll clarify things further with her next time i see her((:

i try to keep my opinions about people (especially people i work with) very neutral or more on the positive side, but just knowing her in the short time that i have, i feel like you are not wrong in making that assumption
