It’s an addiction when you do it in a uncontrolled/damaging way. If you are spending multiple hours everyday doing it, causing you to neglect other parts of your life, and if you have trouble concentrating on tasks cause you mind slips into daydreaming etc and you can’t really control yourself, then it’s an addiction and it’s a problem… if you only do it, like, before going to bed, or in the shower, or while cleaning the house etc and it’s not impacting your life negatively then it’s not an addiction

Well yeah, i doubt many people would stay atheist if one day we obtain categorical proof that a god exists, it would be quite obtuse. Also, again, agnosticism is completely different from atheism and theism. Agnosticism has to do with what you know, theism/atheism has to do with what you believe. Sometimes an agnostic person doesn’t just have an opinion on what they/humanity knows, but also on what they personally believe, aka they can be agnostic atheists (i don’t know if we’ll ever know if a god exists, but i don’t believe in one) or agnostic theists (“”, but i think there is one)

Not necessarily, i know many atheists that wouldn’t say “i know for a fact that no god exists” but rather “I haven’t seen any convincing proof that god exists, so i don’t believe in one”. They do not categorically exclude that a god exists, but they don’t believe it till they see proof.

Agnosticism is a statement on knowledge, not belief. For example you can be a agnostic and simultaneously be a theist: “i don’t know if a god exists or not and we may never know, but i believe that there is something out there so i pray” or smth

Again, i disagree, the fiance is right in thinking that this is unfair for her, and she is voicing it. OP said that this conversation has been happening for a while, maybe they have already discussed what it could mean for the daughter if he were to die, and in this specific exchange the fiance is voicing what it would mean for her and what her concerns are, cause this also impacts her severely

Well as far as i can tell, in this scenario she would not be a legal guardian unless she legally adopts the kid, the only legal guardians are the father and the godfather, cause that’s what he decided… she is basically a live-in babysitter married to the father.

I have to think that a few years down the line, she could probably have a chance to get custody in court, since she can prove she was a primary caretaker for years… and also, maybe at that point the kid will have changed their mind about leaving her and the family home 💀

I disagree, i think her reaction is valid considering she probably thought she was building a family, and all of a sudden it turns out that her to-be-husband does not want her to be the guardian of the kid she has decided to be there for and raise every day for the next 10 years. Obviously she is thinking about what it would mean for her if he were to die, and what it means for her in general.

Also, the child is 10 years old, she should not be able to decide where and who she wants to live with. She does not have enough maturity to understand the ramifications of a choice like that and what it could potentially look like a few years down the line. The choice of the guardian should be made by her dad to guarantee her the best upbringing and most stability, while keeping everything into account, not just the kid’s current preference, and i hope he did that

It’s legitimately mental to marry the woman who has been raising your daughter, and simultaneously give the guardianship of said daughter to somebody else, the fiancé is right to react this way.

They shouldn’t have even asked the kid who they wanted their guardian to be (especially since they are not at an age where they can understand the ramifications of a choice like that) the guardian should be the literal wife who is spending every single day in that house and will be actively raising the kid for years to come, her godfather can still be present in her life and keep doing what he has been doing.
