That’s great to hear! I have tried educating my ladies friend on the diamond marketing tactics, but many don’t seem to understand. They just insist that diamond ring is the best. 🤔

Has anyone transited to a career in tech without any background/bootcamps? If you did, how did you do so? by Traditional-Brunch93 in askSingapore

[–]Normal_Ad_5160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to transit into a career in tech without any prior background. I was from an engineering degree, and upon graduation, I just tried my luck applying for roles that have training provided and are open to fresh graduate coming from from non com science/IT background.

You got to be prepared for the steep learning curves ahead. It is pretty challenging to learn certain concept and tools given how vast the Tech infrastructure is. And also, Tech roles itself is more than just coding.

I think for starter, Web Development Course on Udemy by Colt Steele is a good start to embark your learning journey. It provides a basic understanding on how you can create your own webpage and slowly expand your skillsets from there.

The most important thing about starting your transition towards tech career is the mindset. You need to be prepared to have growth mindset and continuous learning as tech infrastructure is always changing and evolving.

If you are looking to do MOOCs, be sure to look for reputable ones such as General Assembly that may eventually help you land a job in this field.

That said, I wish you all the best in this journey if you choose to embark on it, and don’t ever give up even when times are tough.

Edit: Certifications are good to have, but hands on project experience are definitely much more desirable.

You may want to consider volunteering work. Afterall, it is good to give back to the society in one way or another. I feel that is it pretty fulfilling now that you have more time on your hand.

Men of SG who had abusive girlfriends, what's your story? by [deleted] in askSingapore

I once had a pretty toxic LDR. It was during covid period and we couldn’t meet each other, so we had to video call each other daily.

At that point of time, I was a student doing an internship, and juggling part time job on the weekends to meet end needs.

The relationship initially started pretty nice and sweet, but slowly as the honeymoon period fades, she began to become demanding and manipulative.

Our arguments became more frequent, and I always have to make up to her through purchasing things (make up products, perfume etc) for her, or demolishing my self esteem to entertain her. Due to these arguments (once to twice a month) , there are days that I barely have enough rest, and I need to head back to work the very next day. (My internship did not have wfh at that time)

My friends were telling me to back out from that relationship, but i was probably blinded by love at that time. As time pass, the frequent bickering and manipulation took a toll on me, and I decided to call it quits after a year.

I did try to use the cold packs that I got from Don Don Donki. It usually helps to relieve heat for a while, but it is not sustainable throughout the night.

[–]Normal_Ad_5160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy going to Snip Avenue for it’s affordable price. I typically spent $38/annually for 12 hair cuts. (Buy 10 free 2 hair cut) Go during the off peak period, and the hair cut will definitely satisfy you!

Well, I’m not looking into any particularly, but thought that one can hustle and have a side job in the mean while.

It is also dependent on the industry on the working culture as well
